You’ll define test strategies, guide automation efforts, and mentor other QA contributors. This role involves developing and executing tests across frontend, backend, and end-to-end workflows. You’ll collaborate with developers, product owners, senior engineers, DevOps, and offshore teams to ensure high-quality releases. Additionally, you’ll help shape automation direction, influence testing best practices, and support process improvements that scale with our growing product and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead QA efforts within an Agile team, including estimation, requirement clarification, daily standups, and sprint reviews.
  • Own end-to-end testing responsibilities for assigned features, ensuring full coverage across manual and automated tests.
  • Design and implement effective test strategies for both manual and automated validation of new functionality.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain automated test cases across frontend, backend, and end-to-end scenarios.
  • Assign and oversee testing tasks across team members, including mentoring junior and offshore QA engineers.
  • Perform hands-on test execution and exploratory testing as needed to validate user stories and detect edge cases.
  • Analyze test results, track defects, and ensure accurate and timely documentation of testing activities.
  • Review team test results and provide feedback to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
  • Collaborate with developers (including senior engineers) and product owners to present test outcomes and ensure acceptance of deliverables.
  • Contribute to the evolution of test automation frameworks and promote quality engineering best practices to improve test coverage, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support release and deployment testing activities, including after-hours testing when required, to ensure production readiness and quality assurance.

Experience Required:

Required:

  • Minimum 6 years prior experience in QA testing role including 3 years of test automation
  • Experience mentoring QA engineers and leading testing efforts on Agile teams
  • Understanding of software testing principles, including functional, regression, integration, and system testing
  • Experience with at least one programming language commonly used in test automation (e.g., C#, Java, Python, JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git, including basic operations such as branching, merging, and pull requests.
  • Experience with continuous build/deployment process

Preferred:

  • Experience testing mobile applications
  • Familiarity with BDD tools (e.g., SpecFlow, Cucumber) and Gherkin syntax
  • Experience with UI based test automation tools, such as Selenium
  • Experience with release planning, or QA coordination across multiple teams
  • Interest in growing into a QA leadership or management role, with a mindset for coaching, strategic thinking, and scaling quality practices

Education/Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to define effective test scenarios and identify quality risks
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new software applications and domains
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive tasks to completion
  • Experience guiding and mentoring others, providing clear direction and constructive feedback
  • Exhibits alignment with Kahua’s Core Values of Teamwork, Customer Focus, Continuous Improvement, Performance, and Work-Life Balance
