Role Summary

The Sr. Purchasing Manager of Indirect Procurement for Facilities Construction Materials is responsible for strategic sourcing activities and supplier management functions to meet Rivian’s real estate expansion across North America and Europe. This role will partner cross-functionally to support the execution of capital expenditure initiatives in the commercial space (retail & service centers), workplace, and charging infrastructure. This role will lead sourcing events and process improvements for indirect spend categories including design/construction services and materials to build out our facilities including but not limited to: furniture/fixtures, custom millwork, signage/graphics, architectural finishes, storefronts, doors, frames & hardware, MEP equipment. This position is located onsite in Plymouth, MI, Irvine, CA, or Palo Alto, CA and reports to the Group Manager of Construction and Facilities Purchasing.


Responsibilities

  • Work closely alongside Stakeholders in Facilities and Branded Environments to meet their budgets and technical / quality requirements
  • Develop sourcing strategies by analyzing spend, project build plans, supply base, and market conditions
  • Lead project RFPs and perform detailed analysis of bids based on cost and qualifications from supplier submissions
  • Own the contractual process with suppliers by negotiating Master Agreements, General Terms & Conditions, Work Orders, Service Orders, and Statements of Work in close partnership with Rivian Legal
  • Identify potential suppliers, review capabilities, and develop commodity strategies and roadmaps for Rivian Stakeholders
  • Execute against set schedule milestones and track progress and performance, ensuring design consultants, contractors and material suppliers are successfully delivering on contract requirements
  • Expand opportunities to generate value to the enterprise through contracting national accounts, consolidating spend, rationalizing suppliers, improving pay terms, driving process efficiency and developing other technical related opportunities such as value engineering and product re-specification
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk on individual projects and resolve project issues by coordinating solutions at the team level when possible
  • Drive and implement continuous cost improvements through negotiations to achieve operational cost targets
  • Establish strong supplier relationships and manage performance through the creation of key performance metrics
  • Deliver against project budgets in collaboration with Rivian Finance team to ensure contracts meet / exceed cost targets, contributing to organization’s savings goals
  • Analyze current spend data in construction and facilities material commodities and find opportunities for reducing cost
  • Work closely alongside Stakeholders to meet their technical requirements, execute against set milestones and track sourcing progress
  • Promote cross-functional engagement to successfully collaborate and influence change management
  • Assist in market research. Identify potential sources by various indicators based on project requirements as well as Rivian’s goals related to sustainability, equity, and diversity

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, or Engineering
  • 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, or strategic sourcing experience
  • 3+ years of experience sourcing facilities or construction related materials such as furniture, millwork, signage/graphics, architectural finishes
  • Must be well versed in the theory, principles, and best practices of real estate development, design and construction
  • Working knowledge of the construction labor market and materials/commodities trends
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • High level of integrity
  • Analytical skills to effectively problem solve and ensure both internal and external requests are fulfilled
  • Attention to detail with an ability to organize large amounts of information into digestible, verbal, and visual forms of communication to ensure that the sourcing criteria meets the Stakeholder’s requirements
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exhibit proficiency in industry standard sourcing and collaboration tools - BuildingConnected, Coupa, and Jira a plus

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Michigan Based Applicants: $98,500 - $123,100 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Southern California Based Applicants: $107,800 - $134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Northern California Based Applicants: $117,200 - $146,500 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
