WSB in Minnesota is seeking a Senior Project Manager for our Municipal team. You will manage multi-discipline projects, lead engineers and staff, and deliver CIP programs for municipal clients across the U.S.

The role emphasizes strong client relations, budget oversight, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree, Minnesota PE or eligibility within six months, and 8+ years of municipal experience, preferably in the Minneapolis metro area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school.
• Registration as a professional engineer (or ability to obtain) in Minnesota within six months.
• 8+ years municipal experience with direct municipality work.
• Experience with Minnesota municipalities preferred; familiarity with Minneapolis metro area.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate client meetings, hearings, and public involvement events.
• Lead a team of engineers, technicians, and staff across locations.

What you will do:

• Manage all aspects of multi-discipline projects and clients from the proposal process to project closeout
• Plan, direct, and coordinate activities including client meetings, public hearings, and public involvement events so that projects move forward within the prescribed time frames and budgets
• Anticipate client needs, biases, and preferences and tailor communication and work output accordingly
• Team Leadership: Leading a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and monitoring project progress in multiple locations
• Work directly with municipal client staff to deliver CIP programs and or projects, potentially on-site in a staff augmentation setting
• Client Relations: Establishing and maintaining relationships with municipal clients, understanding their needs, and ensuring project requirements are met
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring projects comply with relevant municipal codes, regulations, and environmental standards.
• Experience with Minnesota municipalities requirements is a plus
• Budgeting and Resource Management: Developing project budgets, allocating resources effectively, and monitoring expenditures to ensure cost control
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identifying potential risks and challenges, developing risk mitigation strategies, and resolving issues that may arise during project execution.
• Contract Management: Overseeing contract negotiations, reviewing contractor performance, and ensuring compliance with contractual agreements
• Prepare or coordinate preparation of project / client correspondence and documentation
• Participate in and lead business development activities to new and existing clients through the following activities: plans, leads and participates in client meetings and networking events
• Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvements, implementing best practices, and promoting innovation within the municipal engineering department
• Understanding of alternative funding sources for municipal projects, and ability to secure funding

What you will bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school
• Registration as a professional engineer (or the ability to obtain registration within six months) in Minnesota
• 8+ years municipal experience; direct experience working for a municipality
• Experience working with municipalities within state of Minnesota is preferred
• Our preferred candidate would have experience in managing a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, clients, and staff in Minneapolis metro or surrounding areas
• A history in delivering projects with positive customer service experiences
• The ability and desire to develop an understanding of, or even anticipate the client’s needs
