Job summary

James Fisher Technologies (JFT) is seeking a Sr. Project Engineer to lead teams and supervise engineering solutions across the project lifecycle.

The role focuses on nuclear or high-hazard remote machinery design with strong emphasis on QA compliance and advanced 2D/3D design tooling. The successful candidate will have a mechanical engineering degree (10+ years design, 3+ years leadership), proficiency in FEA and drawing standards, and experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, and SolidWorks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering with 10+ years of design experience.
• Professional Engineer or working toward licensure.
• Experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T, drawing standards, EFDs, P&ID's and MFD's.
• Experience with complex mechanical equipment and fabrication processes.
• 2D and 3D design proficiency (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, SolidWorks).
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and NQA-1 QA programs and EH&S requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide team leadership and supervise the development of engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate across disciplines to ensure design integrity, schedule adherence, and technical quality.
• Mentor engineers and support continual improvement of design processes.

Job Function:

The Sr. Project Engineer - provides team leadership and supervises the development of engineering solutions throughout the project life cycle.

Position Reports to:

Engineer Resource Manager

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering with at least 10 years of design experience and 3 years in a technical leadership role.
• Nuclear or high hazardous remote special purpose machinery design experience and knowledge of nuclear design procedures a plus.
• Professional Engineer or working towards achieving.
• Experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) preferred.
• Knowledge of drawing principles and standards including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, as well as familiarity with EFD'S, P&ID's and MFD's.
• Working knowledge of complex mechanical equipment and fabrications, manufacturing techniques, materials and processes.
• Skilled in both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design (Inventor and Vault system/SolidWorks) software packages.
• Understanding of ISO 9001 and NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs and EH&S legislation, as well as commercial awareness and business acumen.

Typical Working Conditions:

Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers, and vendors is essential. May occasionally lift and carry items, typically under 50 pounds. At times, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment is required.
