We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Program Manager of Clinical Trial Business Development to join our team in the Optum Center for Research and Innovation, focusing on expanding our clinical trials program. As a Senior PM, you will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, recruiting new physicians to join the clinical research program, fostering internal and external strategic partnerships, and driving revenue growth. You will play a crucial role in expanding our roster of research sites and investigators, increasing internal capabilities for research participation, developing key relationships, and implementing effective strategies to achieve business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Business Growth: Identify and pursue new clinical trial opportunities through market research, prospecting, and lead generation. Develop and execute strategies to expand the customer base, drive revenue growth, and achieve sales targets

  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain solid relationships to identify new internal markets to engage in research. Attend external networking events, conferences, and trade shows to promote the company's products/services and create new business connections

  • Client Engagement: Understand Optum needs and pain points to tailor solutions that align with their objectives. Conduct presentations and facilitate negotiations to win new contracts and secure long-term partnerships

  • Proposal Development: Collaborate with internal teams to develop customized proposals, value propositions, presentations, and contract negotiations. Ensure proposals are comprehensive, competitive, and align with client requirements

  • Sales Strategy: Develop and implement effective business development strategies, including pricing models, staffing and compensation models, and stakeholder engagement. Continuously evaluate and optimize strategies to maximize business opportunities and profitability

  • Pipeline Management: Maintain a robust clinical trial pipeline and track research activities. Forecast and report on performance, enrollment trends, and competitor activities to the management team

  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, and operations, to align with overall company goals

  • Industry Knowledge: Stay updated with industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies. Share industry insights with the team and contribute to strategic planning and business development initiatives

  • Professional Development: Continuously enhance knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities, industry certifications, and networking activities

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years proven research industry experience as a clinical trial manager, clinical trial site manager or in a similar business development role

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving performance targets and driving revenue growth

  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical research with emphasis on relationship building, staffing needs, and emerging market dynamics

  • Proven excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and negotiate effectively

  • Proven proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willing or flexibility to travel as required to meet with clients, attend conferences, and industry events



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proven strategic mindset with the ability to analyze market trends, identify opportunities, and develop actionable plans

  • Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to understand complex industry landscapes

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
