Job description

Sr. Professional Engineer — Water/Wastewater Facilities

The City of Fort Worth Water Department's Capital Projects Division, Facilities Section is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Senior Professional Engineer with design and project management experience to work on water and wastewater plant projects, as well as water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

The successful candidate will have the ability to coordinate various City engineering programs and projects; perform professional civil engineering work including design, inspection, and contract administration of water and wastewater facilities; prepare, review, and evaluate construction bids, costs, estimates, and change orders; and develop, review, and modify engineering plans, designs, and specifications.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage complex facility projects (water treatment & wastewater treatment plants, water pump stations, sewer lift stations, water storage tanks, and wholesale customer water and sewer metering stations) from planning to construction completion and close-out.
  2. Collaborate with operations staff to incorporate operational requirements into planning, design, and construction of capital projects.
  3. Develop RFPs, review proposals, negotiate scope, cost, and schedule, and oversee contract execution.
  4. Lead and coordinate engineering design activities, review technical and regulatory aspects, and manage project scope, budget, and schedule.
  5. Oversee construction projects, review estimates, monitor inspections, and coordinate commissioning and start-up activities.
  6. Resolve design and construction issues, verify compliance with contract documents, and ensure proper documentation and record-keeping.
  7. Manage city processes, procedures, legal, contractual, and permit requirements related to design and construction.
  8. Supervise staff, provide mentoring, and act as the City's representative for consultants and contractors.
Qualifications
  • PE registration in Texas required; if licensed elsewhere, must obtain within six months.
  • Minimum five years of civil engineering experience, with at least two years in related responsibility areas.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Primavera 6, AutoCAD, Civil 3D preferred.
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater facilities projects preferred.
  • Field and project management experience desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
Preferences
  • Knowledge of Fort Worth engineering standards and experience in large infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm; occasional evening/weekend work.
