Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Define product specifications, features, and functionalities, while ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
  2. Develop product designs in accordance with Product Standards (for example, IEC61439 & UL857).
  3. 3D modelling and 2D drafting of product designs.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, to execute product development plans.
  5. Align with the culture of innovation within the product development team, that encourages creative thinking and idea generation.
  6. Work closely with external suppliers and partners to source components and materials.
  7. Adherence to the department's NPDI process and completion of relevant documentation.
  8. Stay current with technological advancements and industry developments, applying relevant knowledge to enhance product offerings.
  9. Support and build prototypes to support the development of product design.
  10. Coordinate testing for development and certification accordingly.
  11. Follow the Engineering change process for existing products.
  12. Demonstrate Ethics and Integrity.
  13. Product Risk Assessment through DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis).
  14. Organization of drawings and documentation for efficient reference.
  15. Timely, accurate responses to requests for design information and drawings.
  16. Mentor Jr engineers and provide technical guidance throughout the product development process.
  17. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering/design technology or equivalent, combination of education & experience.
  2. Proficiency in 3D modelling using SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA or equivalent 3D design package.
  3. 3D modeling, 2D drafting (first angle and Third angle projection), GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  4. Proficiency in product lifecycle management (PLM) software, and other relevant software applications.
  5. Strong organization skills, and ability to work & multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Time management Skills.
  7. Excellent written & verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Must be action & detail-oriented with strong problem resolution, analysis, & decision-making skills.
  9. Must be motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to interact seamlessly with other departments and be comfortable working independently or as part of a team.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  1. 7+ years of experience in Design within the manufacturing environment or directly related experience.
  2. Solid understanding of regulatory UL standards, experience with UL857 is a plus.
  3. Experience with power distribution applications and/or the data center industry is advantageous.
  4. Experience designing mild steel sheet welded assemblies, extruded/injection molded plastic parts and assemblies.
  5. Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), DFE (Design for Environment).
  6. Knowledge of Process flow, PFMEA, Control plan, Standard Operating Procedure preparation.
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Smartsheet, and other business applications are desirable.
  8. Demonstrated competence in communication and problem-solving.
