Job summary

Argon Medical Devices, Inc. in Plano, Texas seeks a Sr. Procurement Project Engineer to lead procurement for NPD, PD, CPS and VIP programs.

You will engage suppliers early, drive cost-effective sourcing, and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing and Planning to embed procurement strategies in projects. You will manage POs, qualify suppliers, evaluate Make vs Buy options, and mentor the team while delivering on-time, on-budget results across the product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or technical field is required.
  • 7+ years of medical devices experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with ability to build strong supplier relationships.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain, QA, BQA, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with supplier qualification, validation, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with medical device commodities.
  • Advanced computer skills: MS Office, MS Excel, MS Project.
  • Advanced ERP/PLM skills: Agile, ETQ, SAP, QAD; travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main Procurement representative for assigned NPD, PD, CPS, and VIP projects.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external suppliers, manage RFQs, project updates, and lead contract negotiations.
  • Identify suitable supplier candidates to support design input, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering during early development to qualify suppliers and drive approvals.
  • Collaborate with engineering and suppliers to optimize product cost and performance, deliver TCO improvements.
  • Lead Make vs. Buy evaluations for in-house vs external sourcing.
  • Initiate and manage purchase orders and align material delivery with project schedules.
  • Oversee procurement through product qualification and transition to production.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to strengthen the procurement team.
  • Represent the company positively and build valuable business partnerships.

Position Overview

The Sr. Procurement Project Engineer serves as the primary Procurement liaison for New Product Development (NPD), Product Development (PD), Custom Product Solutions (CPS), and Value Improvement Programs (VIP). This role is responsible for managing Procurement activities and driving early supplier engagement, with shared accountability and responsibility for on-time and on-budget delivery of projects. The Sr. Procurement Project Engineer partners closely with cross-functional teams, collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, and Planning to ensure procurement strategies are effectively integrated into project execution.


What you will do


  • Act as the main Procurement representative for assigned NPD, PD, CPS, and VIP projects.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external suppliers, managing requests for quotations, project status updates, and leading contract negotiations.

  • Identify suitable supplier candidates to support design input, manufacturability, and cost efficiency based on understanding of overall product strategy, supplier performance and supplier readiness.

  • Partners with engineering teams during early development to identify and qualify suppliers, driving the supplier approval process to align with project timelines and sourcing strategies.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and strategic suppliers to optimize product cost and performance, delivering Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) improvements throughout the entire life cycle.

  • Lead comprehensive \"Make vs. Buy\" evaluations to determine the most cost-effective and strategic approach between in-house manufacturing and external sourcing.

  • Initiate and manage purchase orders, evaluate project schedule and align delivery of materials to support project schedule.

  • Oversee procurement activities throughout product qualification and ensure a smooth transition to production.

  • Provides guidance, technical expertise, and mentoring to strengthen the Procurement team’s capabilities.

  • Represent the company positively and build business partners that benefit the company.


Skills for Success


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or technical field.

  • 7+ years medical devices experience.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain, Quality Assurance, BQA, and Regulatory compliance.

  • Experience with commodities used in the medical device industry.

  • Advanced computer skills: MS Office, MS Excel, and MS Project (must).

  • Advanced ERP/PLM skills: Product Lifecycle Management like Agile system, ETQ or similar, Enterprise Resource Planning like SAP, QAD or similar (must).

  • Travel 15%.
