Job summary

RTX in East Hartford, CT is seeking a Sr. Principal Engineer in Materials and Processes Engineering to drive titanium alloy development and support legacy alloys. You will work at the interface of physics research and tech development for aerospace jet engines.

The role requires guiding a focused team, mentoring engineers, and leading production-ready programs while coordinating with customers across the enterprise to deliver R&D outcomes.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• This is a senior level technical position supporting strategy development, mentoring junior engineers, and test program execution.
• Lead elements or initiatives related to titanium alloy development, characterization, and production implementation for jet engines.
• Support enterprise customers to plan, execute, and report R&D on titanium alloys for production and fielded hardware.
• Act as a technology leader, benchmark alloy tech, secure funding, manage projects, and update standard work.
• Help create and execute the strategic vision for the discipline with long-term technology roadmaps and funding.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to early career engineers for risk-based decision making.
• Interface with AFRL, DOD, DOE, and NASA to seek, secure and execute contracts.

Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization in East Hartford, CT has an opening for a P5 Sr. Principal Engineer to drive titanium alloys development and legacy alloy support within Alloy Development group.

The candidate will work with a highly focused team at the interface of physical research and technical development of the technologies applied in aerospace jet engines.

What You Will Do

• This is a senior level technical position where the selected candidate will support strategy development, mentor junior level engineers, and support execution of test programs.
• Lead elements or entire initiatives related to titanium alloy development, characterization, and production implementation for current and future jet engines.
• Support customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology, production, repair) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to titanium alloys on production and fielded hardware.
• The candidate will be viewed as a technology leader with responsibilities that include bench-marking alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work.
• Support creation and execution of the strategic vision for Discipline including identifying long-term strategic technology roadmaps and securing internal & external funding.
• Provide technical mentorship and coaching to early career engineers to execute risk-based decision making.
• Interface with external funding sources such as the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of War (DOW), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts.

Qualifications You Must Have

• B.S. degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience or 7+ years w/an advanced degree
• Candidate must be a US Citizen or Green card holder with ability to obtain a US Citizenship.
• 10% Travel is required

Qualifications We Prefer

• M.S. or Ph.D. with a fundamental understanding of physical metallurgy of titanium alloys and processing
• Experience in testing and characterization of alloys
• Fundamental understanding of effects of thermal mechanical processing of titanium alloys and the impact on material behavior
• Experience in data collection, data management, and data analysis methods.
• Fundamental understanding of material and process modeling
• Six Sigma Green Belt

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
