Job summary

UCSF Health in Berkeley, CA seeks a CRT Mammography Technologist to perform screening and diagnostic breast imaging with attention to quality and safety. You will work with radiologists and staff to ensure accurate data in RIS/PACS and support training of students and new hires.

Job Description

New hires are eligible for a sign on bonus.

CRT licensed Mammography Technologist performing screening and diagnostic breast imaging and procedures. Produces ACR quality images in both diagnostic and screening exams. Works with clinicians and other departments to coordinate patient care. Ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS systems. Participates in performance improvement activities and maintains quality control records. Also responsible for training and interacting with students, new hires, residents, and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Uses AIDET to build rapport with patients before, during, and after procedures.
  • Produces ACR quality images following established departmental protocols (technique, views, positioning, labeling, patient identification).
  • Prepares room, equipment, and contrast media for the Radiologist.
  • Troubleshoots equipment failures; documents and reports to appropriate personnel.
  • Prepares patient, confirms identification, and reviews exam requisition in the radiology information system and electronic order entry systems.
  • Performs daily quality assurance procedure per MQSA accreditation compliance.
  • Works safely and effectively with ancillary and procedural staff; participates in the timeout procedure.
  • Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.
  • Maintains constant communication with patients and fellow staff involved with the exam.
  • Presents oneself professionally with a positive demeanor to all patients, co‑workers, physicians, and other departments.
  • Under supervision performs breast imaging procedures and quality control.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures: proper body mechanics, radiation safety guidelines, shielding, attendance, punctuality, safety training, hospital hand hygiene, dress code, discretion of hospital ID badge, ARRt ethics, MQSA standards.
  • Maintains correct clinical data in the radiology computer system and mammography computer systems; complies with HIPAA policies.
  • Demonstrates leadership by prioritizing and completing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Attends staff development activities, required hospital training, in‑services, professional meetings, and seminars; participates in cross‑training.
  • Participates in performance improvement projects for the department and hospital.
  • Monitors supplies, checks expiration, adheres to productivity monitors, ensures accurate billing codes, and identifies cost‑containment opportunities.
  • Performs other duties within scope of the job, training, and licensure; assists other departments when necessary.
Qualifications – Required
  • Graduate of a JCERT radiology technology training program.
  • Flexible scheduling with ability to rotate shifts and cover weekends and holidays.
  • Willing to assist at any UCSF Medical Center location.
  • Minimum 3 years of Mammography experience (senior level) or 7 years (principal level).
  • Reliable, responsible, timely performance of job duties.
  • Ability to handle any workload or patient volume.
  • Respectful of all persons regardless of background, beliefs, or gender.
  • Knowledge of Radiology Information System downtime procedures, scheduling, and completion of patient exams.
  • Knowledge of the Medical Center’s EHR and ordering systems.
  • Knowledge of breast imaging systems and selection of correct patient and exam from worklists.
  • Knowledge of the Incident Reporting System.
  • Leadership skills; prioritization with minimal supervision.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • ARRT (R) (M)
  • Prefer breast ultrasound experience.
  • CRT Fluoroscopy License.
Required Licenses / Certifications
  • CRT (M) Mammography Certification.
  • CRT (R) Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • BLS Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification.
  • Proof of at least 40 documented hours of mammography‑specific training if certified after April 27, 1999.
  • Proof of having performed at least 200 mammography exams in the last 24 months.
  • Proof of at least 15 CEU’s in Mammography in the last 36‑month period.
  • Proof of MQSA approved 8 hours each of Digital and 3D Tomosynthesis training.
  • Proof of initial 25 supervised mammograms.
