UCSF Health is seeking a CRT Mammography Technologist for per diem coverage across UCSF campus locations. The role focuses on screening and diagnostic breast imaging, coordinating care with clinicians, and maintaining data accuracy in RIS and PACS.

You will also contribute to quality-control activities and participate in staff training. Responsibilities include producing ACR-quality images, following exam protocols, and supporting performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of Mammography experience for a principal level; minimum of 3 years for a senior level.
• Graduate of a JCERT radiology technology training program.
• Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts, and coverage for weekends and holidays.

New hires are eligible for a sign‑on bonus.

A CRT licensed Mammography Technologist performs screening and diagnostic breast imaging and procedures. The technologist produces ACR quality images in both diagnostic and screening exams, coordinates patient care with clinicians and other departments, and ensures clinical data is correct in the RIS and PACS systems. The technologist participates in performance improvement activities, maintains quality‑control records, and performs routine equipment testing and maintenance. The technologist is also responsible for training and interacting with students and new hires.

This per diem role provides coverage at UCSF campus locations, working eight‑hour shifts Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Follow the Medical Center’s values of Everyday PRIDE in the workplace.
• Adhere to the AIDET acronym when initiating rapport with the patient.
• Produce ACR quality images following departmental protocols for technique, views, positioning, proper labeling, and patient identification.
• Prepare room, equipment, and contrast media as needed to assist the Radiologist.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures, document and report to the appropriate individual.
• Prepare patients for imaging: identify self, explain the procedure, confirm patient identification, and review exam requisition through RIS or the hospital electronic order entry systems.
• Perform daily quality‑assurance procedures in accordance with MQSA accreditation compliance.
• Work safely and effectively with ancillary and procedural staff and participate in the timeout procedure.
• Participate in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.
• Maintain constant communication with patients and fellow staff involved with the exam.
• Present oneself professionally and positively to all patients, co‑workers, physicians, and departments.
• Under supervision perform breast imaging procedures and quality‑control tasks.
• Adheres to policies and procedures: utilize proper body mechanics, follow radiation‑safety guidelines and shielding, adhere to attendance and tardiness guidelines, remain current with hospital policies and safety training, provide excellent customer service, keep the work environment clean and compliant with infection‑control and environmental‑health standards, maintain a professional appearance, and adhere to ARRT and MQSA standards.
• Information Management: ensure clinical data is correct and appropriate for procedures, complete all exams in the radiology computer system and the mammography system, and adhere to HIPAA policies and procedures.
• Leadership/Supervision: demonstrate the ability to prioritize and complete tasks with little or no supervision.
• Development: attend assigned staff development activities, required hospital training and in‑services, professional meetings or seminars, and participate in cross‑training activities when necessary.
• Performance Improvement: participate in related performance‑improvement projects for the department and hospital.
• Budgetary: monitor use of supplies, routinely check expiration of supplies, adhere to productivity monitors, ensure patient information and billing codes are correct, and identify opportunities for cost containment.

Other Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job, training, and licensure.
• Assist other departments when necessary.
• Participate in the training and mentoring of students and new hires.

Required Qualifications

• Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts, and coverage for weekends and holidays.
• Willingness to assist at any UCSF Medical Center location.
• CRT (M) Mammography Certification
• CRT (R) Radiologic Technologist Certification
• BLS Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification
• Proof of at least 40 documented hours of specific mammography training if certified after April 27, 1999.
• Proof of having performed at least 200 mammography exams in the last 24 months (rolling 24‑month calendar).
• Proof of at least 15 CEUs in Mammography in the last 36 months.
• Proof of MQSA‑approved 8 hours of Digital and 3‑D Tomosynthesis training.
• Proof of initial 25 supervised mammograms.
• Additional principal level qualifications:
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform job duties in a reliable, responsible, and timely fashion.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under varying workload and patient volume.
  • Respectful of all personnel, regardless of background, beliefs, or gender.
  • Knowledge of the Radiology Information System and related downtime procedures, and proper scheduling and completion of patient exams.
  • Knowledge of the current Electronic Health Record and ordering systems.
  • Knowledge of Breast Imaging systems and the ability to select the correct patient and exam from worklists.
  • Knowledge of the Incident Reporting System.
  • Leadership skills.

Preferred Qualification

• ARRT (R) (M)
• Prefer breast ultrasound experience
• CRT Fluoroscopy License
