Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct/indirect supervision and leadership for sponsored programs staff with regard to sponsored programs proposal processing activities.
  • Review proposals and budgets for submission, assuring compliance with university policies, federal, state and sponsor guidelines.
  • Counsel, advise, and assist faculty and staff with proposal and budget development for externally funded projects.
  • Identify risks and liabilities and minimize the impact on the University when reviewing requests for proposals, ensuring that the proposed terms and conditions comply with university policies, federal and state laws, and sponsor guidelines.
  • Serve as liaison between departments and other entities including companies, governmental agencies, non-profit entities, and universities.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of new policies and procedures and agreement standards.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to departmental staff with regard to university procedures and proposal processing standards.
  • Participate in special projects and other assigned duties to further department goals.

Summary

The Pre-Award Analyst at Michigan Technological University servesas a departmental resource for sponsored programs activitiesrelated to proposal processing; is responsible for the preparationof proposals that are expected to result in contracts andagreements with companies, non-profit organizations, governmentalagencies, and universities and provides support to departments,faculty, and staff for proposal processing.

  6. 6. Ensure University compliance with conflicts of interest, exportcontrol, and IRB/IACUC policies relating to proposalprocessing.
  7. 7. Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of newpolicies and procedures and agreement standards.
  8. 8. Provide guidance and mentoring to departmental staff with regardto university procedures and proposal processing standards.
  9. 9. Participate in special projects and other assigned duties tofurther department goals.
  10. 10. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies andapplying them to everyday work.
  11. 11. Actively engage in University continuous improvementinitiatives.
  12. 12. Integrate safety practices into daily activities.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education andexperience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have beenacquired.
Required Experience
  • 5 years of experience processing proposals in highereducation.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
  • Management of direct reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
  • Knowledge of federal and state guidelines for grant and contractadministration.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic software packagesincluding word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
