Position Summary:

The Engineer will be the primary driver of power system modelling and simulation of PV, Wind, Storage plants, in PSLF, PSSE and PSCAD for MOD compliance studies. Building advanced models for high-fidelity renewable plant, control system and grid models, for the purpose of simulating load flow, transient and EMTP models.

The Engineer will be expected to manage, develop, champion, and enforce work processes, documentation, procedures, guidelines, schedules, priorities, and technical specifications for all projects within the assigned region. The Engineer must function as the advocate for continuous improvement and operational excellence for controls and controls-related systems and equipment. This position is remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the modelling and simulation responsibility for the operation technology team.
  • Build, manage and update plant models (in PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD and RTLAB) for PV, BESS and Wind Plants including the plant control systems.
  • Lead and represent the operational technology group on all aspects related to power system and controls
  • Support the leadership in responding to DoE/SETO FOAs and other power system research initiatives and proposals
  • Any other actions required by management.

Requirements:

  • Master’s with 3-5yrs experience or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering. Experts in Power systems modelling, and IBR controls will be preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with team members and business partners.
  • Modeling, simulation and testing renewable energy resources and controls
  • Hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation of protection and control systems using real time digital simulator
  • Interconnection impact studies for renewable power plants
  • Power quality for utilities and wind/solar power plants- voltage/current unbalance, flicker, voltage sag, harmonics
  • Fault analysis, Transient overvoltage studies such as capacitor and reactor switching, faults and clearing, line energizing, lightning
  • Blackstart studies such as transformer energizing, synchronization
  • Transformer saturation and inrush, Load flow and dynamic studies, Short-circuit analysis, Sub-synchronous Control Interaction (SSCI)
  • Lead Continuous Improvement/Lessons Learned program.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States.
  • Travel, 10%

Within each posted range individual pay is determined (and may be greater or higher) dependent on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
