An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for obtaining blood and other patient specimens, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing excellent patient care. Your expertise in venipuncture and capillary puncture will be crucial as you work in various locations, including patient homes and physician offices. Under general supervision of the Pathology Manager, Phlebotomy Supervisor, or guidance of the Lead Phlebotomist, performs responsibilities associated with obtaining blood and other patient specimens in accordance with established procedures. Works primarily in satellite physician offices to obtain samples from adult and pediatric patients for routine and specialized tests. May visit patients' homes to perform services. Prepares specimens for transport to the laboratory and maintains related records.
High school diploma or GED required. Phlebotomy certification through a recognized agency and/or completion of a certified program including a formal internship demonstrating 100 venipunctures. Alternatively, 6 months of phlebotomy experience or 5+ years of direct phlebotomy experience may be considered in lieu of certification.
Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience required. Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on all age groups. Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of care considerations across age groups, and clerical skills are essential. Familiarity with blood collection equipment and ability to distinguish chromatic colors required. Certification in phlebotomy is mandatory.
Work involves in-patient care with considerable walking, some physical effort, exposure to odors, and potential contact with communicable diseases, following infection control procedures. Manual dexterity is required for venipunctures.
