Job summary

Shields Health is seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll across 26+ entities and multiple states, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance. You will own Workday Payroll configuration, audits, and data integrity in collaboration with HR and Finance.

The role requires strategic process improvements and strong leadership of payroll staff. The ideal candidate has 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, extensive Workday Payroll expertise, and a solid understanding of

• Hands-on Workday Payroll experience required.
• Healthcare industry experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour laws, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end payroll processing for 26+ entities across multiple states.
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll across hourly, salaried, and off-cycle payrolls.
• Maintain compliance with wage, tax, and reporting requirements.
• Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues and corrections.
• Manage payroll operations within Workday Payroll including configuration, audits, and testing.
• Partner with HR to ensure data integrity across Workday Payroll, Time & Attendance, and employee records.
• Lead payroll-related system enhancements, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
• Perform regular payroll-related audits.
• Record payroll activity in the general ledger and reconcile payroll-related accounts.
• Manage labor cost allocations and support month-end close activities.
• Partner with Accounting on accruals, reconciliations, and wage/salary variance analysis.
• Support internal and external audits, including payroll and 401(k).
• Oversee payroll-related benefits processing, and support retirement plan reporting.

The Senior Payroll Manager plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across a complex, multi-entity healthcare organization. This role partners closely with Accounting, HR, and Finance and serves as a subject-matter expert for Workday Payroll, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Job Description

Payroll Operations & Compliance

• Lead end-to-end payroll processing for 26+ legal entities across multiple states
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of hourly, salaried, and off-cycle payrolls
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage, tax, and reporting requirements
• Act as the escalation point for complex payroll issues and corrections

Workday Payroll & Systems Leadership

• Manage payroll operations within Workday Payroll, including configuration, audits, and testing
• Partner with HR to ensure data integrity across Workday Payroll, Time & Attendance, and employee records
• Lead payroll-related system enhancements, upgrades, and automation initiatives
• Perform regular payroll related audits

Accounting & Financial Partnership

• Record payroll activity in the general ledger and reconcile payroll-related accounts
• Manage labor cost allocations and support month-end close activities

• Oversee payroll-related benefits processing,

• Lead, mentor, and develop payroll staff, as applicable
• Provide high-level customer service to leaders and employees regarding payroll matters
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Legal, and Operations on policy and regulatory changes

Process Improvement & Controls

• Evaluate and streamline payroll processes and internal controls
• Develop, maintain, and document payroll procedures and best practices

What You Bring/Experience & Expertise

• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-entity and multi-state payroll
• Strong hands-on experience with Workday Payroll required
• Healthcare industry experience preferred
• Advanced knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour laws, and compliance

Technical & Professional Skills

• Advanced Excel skills and experience with general ledger systems
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality

Education

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

Additional Job Description

The pay range for this position is $70,000-$132,000 + bonus + benefits. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
