Job summary

Children's Health in Dallas seeks a Sr. Paramedic for the Emergency Department. This on-site, night-shift position (7:00pm–7:00am) is part-time (2 x 12 hour shifts). The Sr. Paramedic supports nursing and respiratory teams, handles BLS/ALS, and assists in teaching CPR to families prior to discharge.

Responsibilities include administering medications, documenting care, and assisting in staff training. Requires strong emergency care experience with pediatric emphasis preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers as required.
• Texas EMT-P license or Texas LP licensure required.
• PALS, ACLS required (180 days).
• BTLS/ITLS/PHTLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform BLS and advanced skills during patient care, including PIV access and IV fluid prep.
• Initiate BLS/ALS life-saving measures in emergencies; assist with chest compressions.
• Document patient care in EMR per guidelines.
• Administer medications per orders or protocol.
• Provide patient- and family-centered care throughout care delivery.
• Assist in training new staff and provide feedback on performance.
• Participate in meetings and maintain required training.
• Transport patients to procedures per policy.
• Support staff with stabilization of critically ill or injured pediatric patients.

Summary
The Sr. Paramedic operating in the Emergency Department will work under the delegation and direct supervision of a licensed physician using approved clinical skills for patients who are classified in the BLS or ALS category. The Sr. Paramedic will provide care to patients under the direction of the medical director to perform functions that support and supplement the health care team. The Sr. Paramedic will work alone or in small teams to maintain the level of care received on the unit, including any existing medication infusions or airway equipment, and responding appropriately to emergencies with BLS. The Sr. Paramedic will be required to supplement the care of nursing and respiratory care staff during routine clinical duties and will work under nursing delegation when outside the Emergency Department. The Sr. Paramedic in the Internal Transport department will also assist in teaching Children's CPR program to families prior to discharge. In all settings, the Sr. Paramedic will assist in managing the customer service experience of the patient and their families.
Responsibilities

• Perform BLS and advanced skills during patient care including, but not limited to: initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning and insertion of NG/OG tubes.
• Assist in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions.
• Perform documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record per department and hospital guidelines.
• Administer approved medications per physician order or protocol.
• Apply family and patient centered care to all job aspects and support family during all phases of care.
• Assist in the training and development of new staff to the department. Provides objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires.
• Participate in meetings, committees, and maintain all required training.
• Perform the transport of patients to procedures in adherence to hospital policy.
• Provide objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires; perform basic and advanced skills in accordance with the ED Paramedic protocols; assist staff with the stabilization of critically ill and injured neonatal and pediatric patients.

Work Experience

• At least 2 years job related experience Required
• At least 1 year Experience in acute care/emergency setting Preferred
• At least 1 year Pediatric experience Preferred

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Required
• Either one of: Texas EMT-P license or Texas LP licensure Required
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 180 Days Required
• ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification 180 Days Required
• Any one of: BTLS, ITLS or PHTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support) certification 180 Days Preferred
