Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Sr Opto Mechanical Engineer in Redmond, WA to lead manufacturing and test development for a Line Replaceable Unit on the Amazon Leo program. You will be the primary technical voice for the factory, collaborating with design, manufacturing, QA and programs to deliver a high-performance optical/electrical/mechatronic module for space.

The role involves scaling production, driving capital investments for automation, and ensuring quality while meeting schedule goals.

Qualifications

Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
7+ years of experience including new product introduction (NPI).
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics or related field.
Experience in opto-mechanical design, familiar with optics mounting and optical alignment.
5+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and development using at least one CAD package with GD&T, FEA and drawing documentation.
Proficient with optical design principles and ray tracing.

Responsibilities

Serve as primary technical interface to development team and lead the factory voice in reviews and new product development.
Design and analyze optical systems, including opto-mechanical mounting.
Align laser and optical systems and verify performance to meet specs.
Collaborate with optical and system engineering leads on opto-mechanical design.
Document mechanical design including BOM, drawings and procedures.
