Job summary

Pratt & Whitney in Andover, MA is seeking a manufacturing quality professional to lead process improvement, analyze baseline metrics, and drive corrective actions with cross-functional teams.

You will apply APQP, PFMEA, SPC, and control plans to reduce variation, and develop quality metrics to support containment and root-cause actions.

Bachelor’s in STEM and 5+ years in manufacturing quality are required; U.S. citizenship and DoD clearance eligibility may be required.

  • Bachelor’s in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics and 5 years related experience.
  • Experience identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions in cross-functional improvements.
  • Experience in developing quality metrics and verification practices.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, drawings, BOMs, materials control and process disciplines.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD clearance.
  • Six Sigma, Lean, ASQ certifications preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Proficiency with Pareto analysis, cause/effect diagrams, and process mapping.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional improvement activities (Six-sigma, lean).

  • Baseline factory metrics (scrap, rework, FPY) and forecast top drivers for improvement.
  • Drive manufacturing quality through hardware inspection and cross-functional action.
  • Perform process walks and operator observations to reduce variation.
  • Engage defect prevention efforts to align on priorities and corrective actions.
  • Lead APQP initiatives (PFMEA, control plans, SPC) using baseline data and future demand.
  • Identify supplier escapes and coordinate containment with Supplier Quality Management.

About the Role

Position Role Type: Onsite U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

What You Will Do
  • Baseline factory metrics (scrap, rework, FPY, etc.), identify top drivers, forecast future demand for top drivers and identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
  • Drive manufacturing quality through hardware inspection, working hands on with the product and cross functional team to drive root cause corrective action.
  • Perform process walks, operator observations, and lead manufacturing team discussions to drive process enhancements to reduce variation.
  • Engage manufacturing defect prevention teams to ensure alignment on top priorities (using baseline data and future forecast) to drive containment, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Implementation.
  • Lead/Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives (PFMEA, control Plans, SPC, etc.) using baseline metrics and future demand with the ability to perform verification/validation of improvements and efficiencies.
  • Identify supplier escapes/issues and ensure proper containment and backflow to the Supplier Quality Management team.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s in science degree, in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) or other technical field of study, and five (5) years related experience.
  • Experience in identifying root cause, initiating/implementing effective short-term and long-term corrective actions in a cross functional process improvement environment.
  • Experience in development/usage of quality metrics that may be used to drive true root cause and long-term corrective action, and in the identification/institution of perceptive verifications.
  • Experience in manufacturing process within industry technical standards, interpreting drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • J-STD-001, Six Sigma, Lean experience and/or ASQ Certifications (Preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key process characteristics and ability to implement effective process control techniques.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Proficient in the use of pareto analysis, cause/effect diagrams, process mapping.
  • Able to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities (e.g. Six-sigma, lean manufacturing).

Salary

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
