JOB SUMMARY
To support the company's growth, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Senior Mobile Trailer Technician. This is a dedicated on-site position; we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. If you're looking for a new place to call home, we want to talk to you! The Senior Mobile Trailer Technician will perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and advanced repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem-lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and panel/body/frame replacements. Work is performed at the customer's site. The senior technician is relied upon for advanced diagnostics and complex repair triage, acting as a lead on jobsites and a consultant to customers and technicians. A successful senior technician complies with all company policies and meets high performance metrics.
DUTIES
- Follow and comply with all safety operating practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, including periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply knowledge from formal training or on-the-job experience to perform job duties; understand and evaluate technical information.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in the field.
- Respond to dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Document work performed, parts used, and observations using company devices and applications.
- Complete DOT and other required forms accurately and promptly.
- Work independently and manage your daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity levels within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support teams for approvals, purchase orders, and notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Complete all safety training requirements.
- Build and maintain good relationships with customers and vendors.
- Maintain the service truck and perform safety and pre-/post-trip inspections daily.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and safety protocols.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems, including welding and fabrication as needed.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and recommend solutions.
- Inspect, test, and listen to equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
- Assist junior technicians with diagnostics.
- Support inventory reconciliation and technical issues for Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Obtain 608/609 certifications within 18 months.
- Pass DOT-regulated background screening and physical prior to employment.
- Valid DOT medical card, or submit current one with more than 4 months remaining.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate regulations.
- Valid driver’s license, with a clean 3-year MVR review, and ability to comply with DOT driving regulations.
WITHIN 18 MONTHS, OBTAIN:
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE 608/609 certifications
- CDL-A License

- ASE T4 (Brakes)
- ASE T5 (Suspension)
- ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems)
- ASE T7 (HVAC)

Hourly pay ranges from $34.66 to $51.97, with potential incentives and bonuses. Benefits include paid time off, holidays, and various employee discounts.
