Job summary

MP Engineers + Architects is looking for a Senior MEP Engineer with 7+ years of experience to lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design across commercial, residential, mixed-use, and facilities projects in New York.

You will guide projects from concept through construction administration, coordinating with architects and other engineers, reviewing drawings, calculations, and shop drawings, and ensuring code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of MEP systems for diverse building types.
• Manage projects through all phases including conceptual design, DD, CD, permitting, and construction administration.
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules, and reports.
• Perform HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building-system design calculations.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, vendors, and other consultants.
• Conduct site surveys, existing-condition assessments, inspections, and observations.
• Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and technical design issues.
• Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, calculations, specifications, and deliverables.
• Ensure designs comply with NY/NJ codes, energy codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and relevant standards.
• Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and designers.
• Participate in client meetings and communicate requirements, solutions, schedules, and decisions.
• Assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination.
• Support troubleshooting during construction and assist with closeout and commissioning.
• Identify opportunities for design improvements, value engineering, energy efficiency, and cost-effective solutions.

MP Engineers+ is seeking an experienced Senior MEP Engineer with 7+ years of experience in commercial, residential, mixed-use, and facilities design. The ideal candidate will be capable of leading MEP design projects, providing technical direction, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing client relationships, and overseeing projects from concept through construction administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of MEP systems for commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, and facilities projects.
• Manage projects through all phases, including conceptual design, design development, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules, and technical reports.
• Perform and oversee HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building-system design and engineering calculations.
• Lead coordination with architects, structural engineers, contractors, vendors, and other consultants.
• Conduct site surveys, existing-condition assessments, field inspections, and construction observations.
• Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and technical design issues.
• Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, calculations, specifications, and project deliverables.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable NY/NJ building codes, energy codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and designers.
• Participate in client meetings and communicate project requirements, technical solutions, schedules, and design decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 7+ years of professional MEP/building systems design experience.
• Strong experience with commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, or facilities projects.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit/Revit MEP.
• Strong knowledge of building MEP systems, engineering calculations, construction documents, and applicable codes.
• Proven ability to independently manage design assignments and lead multidisciplinary coordination.
• Strong written, verbal, analytical, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; NY/NJ PE strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of NYC and New Jersey building and energy codes.
• Experience with NYC DOB filings, permitting, and AHJ coordination is a plus.
• Experience with HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and fire protection coordination.
• Familiarity with HAP, TRACE, Navisworks, Bluebeam, or other MEP/design software is a plus.
• Experience with construction administration, commissioning, and field inspections.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical deliverables.
