Job description

The Sr. Medical Science Liaison plays an important role in Global Medical Affairs at Glaukos, being part of a field-based team of medical / clinical scientific experts who engage in compliant scientific discussions with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) on disease state, practice education, and product education.

1. The Sr. MSL will be expected to develop new relationships with customers across assigned geographies.
2. The Sr. MSL will support the hiring and coaching of future MSLs and develop innovative processes, infrastructure, and capabilities to best serve our customers.
3. Solid understanding of the roles and responsibilities of US Medical Science Liaisons and a knowledge base of eye diseases.
4. Maintain and demonstrate thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease states, study methodologies, clinical information, and diagnostic data.
5. Execute approved medical platforms/strategies and MSL initiatives.
6. Serve as a technical/scientific resource to cross-functional partners.
7. Teach, coach, and mentor new or less experienced MSLs; assume responsibility for special projects.
8. Possess diagnostic expertise and strategic planning skills.
9. Understand patient diagnostics, recommendations, guidelines, and approvals.
10. Guide and motivate team members without direct reporting relationships.

Key Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To :

1. Identify and manage Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), including optometrists and ophthalmologists.
2. Communicate relevant medical and scientific information effectively.
3. Obtain and provide actionable insights to enhance the value and appropriate use of Glaukos’ products.
4. Establish KOL engagements and attend scientific sessions at local, regional, and national conferences.
5. Support the development of clinical evidence studies.
6. Maintain expertise in disease state management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.
7. Liaise with local and regional optometric and ophthalmic medical societies.
8. Provide practice education to optometric and ophthalmic centers.
9. Manage territory budget, metrics, KOL mapping, and CRM entries.
10. Support cross-functional collaboration including clinical operations, market access, sales, and marketing.

Qualifications include at least 8 years’ experience in eye care/ophthalmology and experience as a medical science liaison in eye care. The role is field-based (remote) on the West Coast of the United States, requiring residence within commuting distance to a major airport. Travel up to 70% for conferences, field visits, and headquarters is expected. The position reports directly to the Vice President, Global Medical Affairs.
