About This Role

iRhythm is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineer I to join our Product Development team. This team comprises talented engineers across various disciplines. The role is hybrid, requiring on-site presence in San Francisco, CA, with flexibility for remote work as appropriate.

You will contribute to developing wearable medical products from early research to commercialization. Our environment is collaborative, and we are passionate about delivering innovative healthcare solutions. We are looking for like-minded individuals to join us!

Responsibilities
  1. Tackle technical activities for development initiatives, including hardware projects (device, packaging, fixtures, processes).
  2. Apply mechanical/materials expertise for failure analysis of production components, assemblies, and field complaints.
  3. Manage supplier and contract manufacturer relationships, including schedules, design changes, first article approvals, and troubleshooting.
  4. Drive mechanical team activities through the NPI process.
  5. Support early-stage research by ideating, testing, and iterating on new concepts.
  6. Execute V&V activities, develop test methods, write protocols/reports, and perform failure analysis.
  7. Complete deliverables for regulatory submissions.
  8. Conduct design transfer activities with Manufacturing for product launch.
  9. Lead mechanical design of wearable medical devices and tools/fixtures.
  10. Write subsystem requirements and translate into product designs that deliver high-quality data insights.
  11. Create scalable concepts using appropriate materials for ambulatory, body-worn devices.
  12. Utilize SolidWorks CAD and PDM in compliance with ISO 13485 QMS.
  13. Identify, analyze, and mitigate design risks.
  14. Support product packaging with internal/external teams.
  15. Scale products through high-volume manufacturing processes, utilizing experience with injection molding, adhesives, die cutting, and electronics integration.
  16. Support sustaining and second sourcing activities.
  17. Use research and data to influence business and product decisions.
  18. Contribute to intellectual property generation.
Required Qualifications
  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; BS with 5+ years or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  2. Experience in product development within a regulated industry like medical devices.
  3. Proficient in SolidWorks CAD, PDM, and GD&T.
  4. Experience with design analysis, high-volume manufacturing, and injection molding is a plus.
  5. Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  6. Effective communication and collaboration across disciplines and with cross-functional partners.
  7. Willing to travel up to 10% to manufacturing facilities or vendors.

Compensation

Estimated range: $135,000 - $175,000, depending on experience and location.
