Job description

Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in semiconductor equipment design to lead the development of automation systems for handling, processing, and characterizing semiconductor-grade diamonds in our foundry. This role will focus on designing and integrating cutting-edge semiconductor equipment, robotics, motion control systems, and computer vision technologies for highly precise operations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in semiconductor manufacturing equipment design and build, with a solid foundation in mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering.

Responsibilities
  1. Design, develop, and optimize semiconductor-grade equipment for handling, processing, and characterizing diamond wafer products.
  2. Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams to design and integrate complex semiconductor equipment components and automation systems into production lines.
  3. Work closely with manufacturing and process engineers to develop and implement automation solutions that enhance system efficiency, throughput, and reliability.
  4. Generate clear, detailed documentation of equipment designs, integration processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in equipment design, especially automation equipment.
  2. Expertise in 3D/2D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  3. Experience with automation such as robotics, fixturing, related manufacturing tools. PLC programming, robotics, Python, and related skills are helpful.
  4. Experience with fabrication (e.g., machining, soldering, electro-mechanical assembly, lathe/mill, 3D printing, welding). Semiconductor experience is a bonus (e.g., wafer handling, deposition, etching).
  5. Experience in GD&T and conducting micron-level tolerance analysis.
$135,000 - $150,000 a year
The position is eligible for company shares. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate’s job duties, experience, and expertise. We will also consider higher level candidates and salary will be adjusted accordingly.

Diamond Foundry believes in supporting our employees from the workplace to their personal and home life. We provide eligible employees with an opportunity to enroll in a variety of benefit programs, generally including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work. Perks include employee discounts to VRAI. All benefits offered are available starting your first day.
