Job Overview

APTIM is seeking senior-level engineers to join our team of engineering professionals serving our Government and Commercial programs.

Engineers will apply critical thinking skills during initial planning, procurement support, plan development, design, construction, and commissioning phases of projects. APTIM expects our engineers to be creative problem solvers and actively seek the best ways to support our diverse clients. Engineers may work on multiple projects simultaneously and perform other duties as required. This role requires prior knowledge of the engineering and construction industry, understanding of corporate mechanisms such as scopes of work, construction safety protocols, and experience in a professional environment. This position offers opportunities for continuous growth and problem-solving in the engineering and construction industry. Engineers typically serve projects both in the field (domestic and international assignments) and in the office as needed.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways as a seasoned professional with a comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in HVAC, ASHRAE, SMACNA & ACGIH codes.
  • Proficiency with building load calculation software such as Trane Trace or Carrier HAP.
  • Perform duct sizing and pressure drop calculations.
  • Size and specify HVAC equipment, including AHUs, DX Units, Chillers, Pumping systems, Cooling Towers, Boilers, and Heat exchangers.
  • Apply principles, theories, and concepts in HVAC and mechanical engineering, with knowledge of related fields.
  • Mentor and oversee younger engineering team members.
  • Provide solutions to complex problems through data analysis and evaluation of factors.
  • Develop project design basis, specifications, and detailed engineering.
  • Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes, standards, and company policies.
  • Lead projects or supervise lower-level personnel as needed.
  • Contribute to a team environment and perform detailed technical analysis of complex issues.
  • Break down complex tasks into manageable subtasks.
  • Travel to site locations for engineering support, client meetings, and coordination with other offices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of related experience.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, technical engineering software), some CADD experience (AutoCAD, REVIT, MicroStation), and good communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for infrequent field assignments.
  • Experience with mechanical and plumbing systems is a plus.
  • Nuclear experience, field experience, construction certifications are additional advantages.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to pass a background check for access to government facilities.
  • PE certification is required.
  • Certified Energy Manager certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and within diverse teams.
  • Willingness to work across engineering disciplines.
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills.
