Position Overview

Novelis – Bay Minette, AL is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for our new Rolling Facility in Bay Minette, Alabama. The Mechanical Engineer will oversee design, construction, and installation of equipment, as well as modifications. You will work with various machinery, analyze and recommend preventive maintenance programs, provide value analysis engineering, and train new maintenance staff, all while driving continuous improvement in the plant.

Responsibilities

• Promote EHS policies to ensure safety standards are met; establish and implement safe work practices.
• Maintain and improve equipment across all phases of heavy industrial plant engineering.
• Provide mechanical understanding of process, civil, and electrical components.
• Address production needs, equipment failures, start-up of new equipment, and development of new products and processes.
• Optimize equipment utilization and efficiency with the latest technology and reliable components.
• Develop solutions for repetitive equipment failures to enhance maintenance effectiveness.
• Contribute to project work and assist in selecting equipment to ensure standardization and ease of maintenance.
• Ensure all equipment modifications meet safety and health regulations.
• Assist in developing safe, effective, and efficient engineering and maintenance procedures.
• Support the implementation of a Quality System and serve as a resource to Operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in aluminum, steel, or heavy manufacturing industries.
• Strong technical, process leadership, and multitasking skills.
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Practical judgment and realistic understanding of issues.
• Ability to overcome obstacles and find solutions case-by-case.
• Discretion in seeking managerial guidance.
• Willingness to travel for training and meetings.
• Proficiency with computer programs and quick learner of new software.
• Ability to lead and engage a diverse team, demonstrating our cultural values.
