Job summary

Ferrotec is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Livermore, CA to design and optimize components and assemblies for precision solutions. You will create detailed drawings and layouts, evaluate manufacturability and costs, and coordinate with multiple departments to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The role requires strong CAD/FEA skills, knowledge of GD&T, and leadership potential to guide junior engineers. Flexibility to work on complex projects with minimal supervision is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 6–10 years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 3–6 years.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Proficient in CAD, FEA, and GD&T principles.

Responsibilities

  • Design and draft components, assemblies, and subsystems following standard engineering practices.
  • Coordinate ECOs and MRB processes with other departments.
  • Conduct analysis and testing to validate design decisions and prepare reports.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers as needed.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

The ideal candidate will design and draft components, assemblies, and subsystems that meet the highest quality standards. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to create detailed engineering drawings and layouts for mechanical and electrical assemblies. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will optimize design factors, including functionality, manufacturability, material availability, cost, and serviceability, while ensuring compliance with customer specifications.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Design and draft components, assemblies, and subsystems following standard engineering and industrial practices and procedures while adhering to quality objectives.
  • Identify, specify, and integrate commercially available industrial components as necessary.
  • Utilize various materials suitable for design applications, including machine components, weldments, ceramics, and plastics.
  • Coordinate the design development of work orders, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and quotes with other departments while participating in Material Review Board (MRB) processes and Advance Deviation Requests (ADRs).
  • Conduct thorough analysis and testing to validate design decisions and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and experience to perform routine and moderately complex engineering tasks.
  • Provide innovative solutions and apply theoretical techniques to real-world engineering problems.
  • Work independently on complex designs with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment in technical decision-making.
  • Train and support junior engineers, facilitating their growth and development.
  • Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, and 6 to 10 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 3-6 years of experience.
  • Proven engineering skills with strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Proficient in CAD, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and GD&T principles.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, focusing on decision-making and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational abilities and leadership potential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of report writing
