Overview

Yoh Life Sciences is hiring for a Sr. R&D Mechanical Engineer with a leading cell therapy customer in the Bay Area. The primary focus of this position will be to develop, test, and assemble critical engineering subsystems. This is a multidisciplinary role, and the individual will interface across many parts of the company (scientists, researchers, engineers) to develop optimal solutions. The successful candidate will be an expert in mechanical design, fluidic control, and automated instrument development.

Salary: $110,000 - $210,000 DOE

Schedule: M-F, 9am-5pm

Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and prototype mechanical components and complex biotech instruments and subsystems.
2. Collaborate with systems and mechanical engineering teams to ensure designs meet product requirements and are manufacturable economically.
3. Work with electrical, controls, and systems engineers on electromechanical designs.
4. Lead complex projects involving electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines.
5. Conduct design reviews and present innovative ideas and solutions.
6. Define subsystem architecture.
7. Show proof of concept through rapid prototyping and test assemblies.
8. Extract design requirements from user needs.
9. Identify and mitigate potential design risks.
10. Design automated test fixtures to validate components.
11. Develop verification and validation protocols, and document results.

Minimum Requirements

1. BSc or MSc in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience.
2. 8-10 years of hands-on experience in biotech automation, semiconductor, or similar industries.
3. Experience with instruments, consumables, and injection molding.
4. Experience transferring designs to manufacturing and communicating with overseas vendors.
5. Knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO, cGMP, QMS is a plus.
6. Proficiency with SolidWorks and GD&T.
7. Rapid prototyping experience.
8. Scripting experience with Python.
9. Successful history of designing and developing automated instruments.
