About the Job:

Peak Energy is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team. The role involves designing complex electro-mechanical systems for our utility-scale sodium-ion energy storage systems (ESS). The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for mechanical system and component designs, collaborating with design, analysis, manufacturing, and program teams to guide high-level design and engineering implementation. The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly motivated, and autonomous.

Responsibilities:

  1. Take ownership of Peak's High Voltage ESS mechanical systems from architecture to continuous improvement.
  2. Define product design directions through broad and deep exploration, trading and communicating design decisions effectively.
  3. Focus on design areas such as high voltage distribution, battery control systems, and power electronics.
  4. Develop and manage subsystem and component requirements.
  5. Collaborate with thermal and structural analysts and other design functions to inform decisions.
  6. Promote rapid prototyping and testing culture.
  7. Support product validation from concept to deployment.
  8. Ensure smooth transition from product development to mass production.
  9. Maintain a team-oriented, proactive attitude, handling tasks of varying sizes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  2. Strong foundation in mechanical and thermal engineering fundamentals.
  3. Knowledge of power electronics and electrical fundamentals.
  4. Proficiency with CAD and PLM software such as CATIA or NX.
  5. Experience with FEA/CFD and other CAE practices.
  6. Familiarity with high voltage battery systems or power electronics design.
  7. Experience in designing and manufacturing medium to high volume products.
  8. Hands-on prototyping, validation, and testing experience.
  9. Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and environmental impact through technology.
  10. Legal eligibility to work in the U.S.
