Position Overview
As a Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will ensure the efficiency and reliability of heavy equipment used in mulch production. Your responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining machinery such as CAT, John Deere, Hitachi, Morbark, and Diamond Z Grinders to support uninterrupted production.

What You’ll Do

1. Equipment Diagnostics & Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems on heavy machinery, including grinders, loaders, excavators, and conveyors.
2. Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine servicing, inspections, and scheduled maintenance to maximize equipment lifespan and minimize downtime.
3. Welding & Fabrication: Conduct welding and fabrication as needed to reinforce equipment structure and make necessary modifications.
4. Technical Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed service records, track parts inventory, and ensure repairs comply with company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
5. Collaboration & Training: Work closely with equipment operators and production teams to diagnose issues quickly and provide guidance on proper equipment use. Mentor junior mechanics as needed.
6. Field Service & Emergency Repairs: Respond to urgent repair needs in both shop and field environments to keep operations running smoothly.
7. Safety & Environmental Compliance: Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and environmental guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.

Skills We Are Seeking

• Basic knowledge of mechanical operations for heavy equipment with a background in diagnostics and welding experience preferred
• Experience working on John Deere, CAT, Hitachi equipment preferred. Experience working on Morbark or Diamond Z grinders and chippers a plus!
• Must possess a valid Driver's License and clean driving record
• Must be capable of lifting up to 65 lbs and comfortable working hands-on for repairs
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and organizational skills
• Must have the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines and achieve desired goals
• Experience with Fleetio truck & equipment maintenance software a plus
