Job summary

Hypertherm Associates seeks a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer to drive excellence in its Kent, WA machine shop. You will embed quality into processes, reduce bottlenecks, and lead cross-functional teams to improve CNC machining capabilities and overall equipment effectiveness.

You will develop reliable processes, justify Capex, and mentor technicians while shaping the equipment roadmap and supporting new product intro with DFMA input and FMEA analysis.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering and 5+ years in manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong PM skills and leadership with cross-functional teams.
  • Real-life GD&T experience and Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Experience with SMED and TPM principles in machining environments.
  • Capex justification experience and ability to lead improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Drive operational excellence across high-mix, low-volume machining value streams.
  • Embed quality, improve OEE, and apply TPM for long-term stability.
  • Oversee multiple projects, justify Capex, set milestones and budgets.
  • Lead technical solutions and mentor engineers or technicians.
  • Collaborate with production and cross-functional teams to meet goals.
  • Design tooling and fixtures; provide DFMA feedback during prototyping.
  • Lead or participate in FMEA to mitigate failure modes.
  • Help define equipment roadmap and contribute to SIOP plans.

Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer Machining

The Hypertherm Associates, Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer is at the heart of the machine shop, driving continuous improvement across CNC machining operations. This role combines hands-on problem-solving with technical leadership; partnering with operators and cross-functional teams to optimize processes, improve quality, increase productivity, and support new manufacturing technologies. From reducing bottlenecks and implementing Lean initiatives to mentoring others and ensuring manufacturing readiness for new products, you’ll have a direct impact on how we build world-class equipment and deliver value to our customers.

As a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer, you will:

  • Drive operational excellence across a high-mix, low-volume in a multi-process value stream by embedding quality into processes and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

  • Develop reliable processes that apply Total Productive Maintenance principles to improve long-term process stability.

  • Oversee multiple projects, including Capex justification and deployment, set objectives and milestones, and ensure timely, budget-friendly completion and production implementation.

  • Improve manufacturing processes by driving technical solutions and indirectly leading engineers or technicians. Provide management with technical recommendations and be recognized as a technical expert in areas like project management, automation, controls, mechanical design, process flow, and Six Sigma.

  • Build and maintain relationships with the production team and cross-functional teams. Communicate project goals at all business levels.

  • Design tooling, fixtures, and workstations for new product introduction. Offer "Design For Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)" feedback during prototyping. Lead or participate in "Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA)" to mitigate failure modes in process and design.

  • Manage the investigation, justification, and purchase of new equipment and tooling. Contribute to defining the equipment/process technology roadmap for the annual operating plan.

Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering role

  • Strong Project Management skills

  • Strong and real-life application of GD&T

  • Strong exposure to statistical analysis for Machining CNC capabilities CP, and CPK

  • Real life experience and exposure to Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED)

  • Root cause problem solving skills, methodology, and ability to innovate corrective actions/solutions

  • Lean/Six-Sigma certifications, knowledge, application, and leadership

  • CAPEX justification & management

  • Demonstrated ability to formulate execution plans for strategic activities

  • Ability to mentor and train Technicians

This is the base pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire.
