What We Need

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer – New Product Development (NPD) is a key member of the Manufacturing Engineering NPD team. This individual will be responsible for leading operational readiness throughout the new product development lifecycle. This role plays a pivotal part in influencing product design for manufacturability, ensuring cost-efficiency, quality, and ease of assembly, while meeting all product requirements.

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will engage with cross-functional NPD teams from the early planning stages through to production launch. In addition to supporting new product introductions, the position may also contribute to sustaining engineering initiatives. This role is instrumental in developing robust, lean manufacturing processes and supporting the setup of efficient production lines in collaboration with site manufacturing engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Serve as the Senior Manufacturing Engineer on NPD teams from initial planning through product launch
  • Act as a core team member and active participant in cross-functional NPD activities
  • Bridge communication between R&D and manufacturing sites, ensuring alignment on manufacturing requirements
  • Lead project planning with manufacturing locations to define operational needs including capacity, space, processes, and capital investments
  • Design and implement lean manufacturing lines using principles such as single-piece flow, standard work, kanban, and playbooks
  • Develop advanced manufacturing processes that ensure capability, repeatability, and reproducibility in production
  • Lead and facilitate Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) to proactively identify and mitigate process risks
  • Establish effective process controls and employ poka-yoke (mistake-proofing) techniques to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Operate with minimal supervision, taking ownership of broad-scope engineering tasks requiring sound judgment and project planning
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Will Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering with 3–5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably within narrow web converting (e.g., slitting, winding, flexographic or inkjet printing).
  • Strong understanding of product development, either from a design or manufacturing engineering perspective.
  • Familiarity with quality systems and standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Ability to work independently and drive tasks within scope of responsibility.
  • Experience with process capability analysis, product development planning, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10–20% as needed.
  • Strong project and task management skills: planning, prioritizing, organizing, documentation, and sound decision-making.
  • Experience developing PFMEAs and control plans to identify and manage manufacturing risks.
  • Familiarity with error-proofing techniques and manufacturing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Strong business acumen, adaptability, team facilitation skills, and ability to work independently while driving execution.
