Job summary

Johnson Controls Federal Systems in York, PA is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join our federal team at York, PA location.

You will support and improve machining operations, including manual and CNC centers, with focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost through lean practices. Responsibilities include leading tooling development, equipment planning, facility optimization, and cross-functional collaboration with Materials, Quality, Engineering, and Safety teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required with a minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering; focus on process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• In lieu of a degree, 7–10 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience may be considered.
• Strong background in machining operations, including manual and CNC equipment.
• Proven ability to lead and implement lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
• Experience in developing and maintaining standard work instructions and production controls.
• Skilled in identifying cost-reduction opportunities and improving operational efficiency.
• Demonstrated success in managing capital equipment projects and facility layout changes.
• Familiarity with evaluating manufacturability and conducting technical assessments of suppliers and vendors.
• Ability to support supplier production startups and ensure alignment with quality and delivery expectations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD tools; SolidWorks or Creo experience.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join our federal team at our York, PA location.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing operations within a machine shop environment, including manual and CNC machining centers. This role focuses on refining existing processes, resolving production issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The engineer will lead efforts in tooling development, equipment planning, and facility optimization, while also collaborating across departments to ensure smooth operations.

This position requires strong hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, a solid understanding of lean principles, and the ability to manage capital projects and supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will be skilled in troubleshooting, process documentation, and technical assessments, with beneficial experience in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo. Success in this role depends on the ability to work cross-functionally, support vendor startups, and apply practical engineering solutions that align with operational goals.
