Job summary

American Flowform and Machining seeks a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to own one or more product lines and manage the manufacturing process from start to finish.

You will monitor production, assist in troubleshooting, and drive continuous improvement with a hands-on approach, applying GD&T, AS9100, and lean principles across metal tubular components. The role requires a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, 8+ years of manufacturing experience, and U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with AS9100.
  • Strong GD&T and ASME Y14.5 knowledge.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop methods of manufacture and process drawings with GD&T.
  • Maintain revision control for manufacturing process drawings.
  • Review and approve manufacturing drawings for GD&T and accuracy.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specs, and customer requirements.
  • Assist in tooling, fixturing, and gauging selection for manufacturing.
  • Investigate root causes using 8D and 5 Whys methods.
  • Provide guidance on disposition of non-conformances.
  • Create mechanical testing reports and trend graphs.
  • Assist in engineering feasibility for commercial quotes.
  • Support safety and zero injury culture through safe procedures.

Job description

As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer your primary responsibility will be to take ownership of one or more product lines and manage that product line’s manufacturing process from beginning to end. Taking a hands-on approach, a successful Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will monitor production and testing, assist in troubleshooting manufacturing issues, and drive continuous improvement efforts throughout the process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop methods of manufacture and process drawings using standard GD&T practices and technical work instructions for various metal tubular components
  • Maintain revision control and revision changes for manufacturing process drawings
  • Review and approve manufacturing drawings for correct GD&T and accuracy
  • Ability to read and understand technical engineering drawings, specifications, and customer flow down requirements for multiple programs
  • Support the research, design, and selection of tooling, fixturing, and gauging to be used in the manufacturing process
  • Investigate and determine root cause using 8D and 5 why methods
  • Provide technical guidance in the disposition of non-conformances
  • Create mechanical testing reports and graphs to track trends
  • Interpret inspection data during development phases and provide guidance
  • Support commercial quote activity by assessing technical feasibility and providing engineering calculations
  • Provide additional support to the engineering department as needed
  • Help to lead a Zero Injury Culture through actions and developing safe job procedures
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent field
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with AS9100
  • Strong experience in process drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Aerospace experience preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to the nature of the work, compliance with federal contracts, and exposure to ITAR/EAR-regulated technical data.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skilled in:
  • Knowledge of metals including Nickel Alloys, Stainless Steels, Maraging Steels and Alloy Steels
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing including Magnetic Particle, Pressure Testing, and Dye Penetrant
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Testing including Tensile Test, Hardness Test, Grain Size and Salt Fog
  • Having a hands-on approach with assembly of designs and fixturing
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Ability to use basic inspection tools such as micrometers, caliper, and dial indicators
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, organizational and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask with a focus on time management to meet schedules
  • A high attention to detail with a mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project)

  • Exposed to prolonged risk of loud to moderate noise throughout the day. Hearing protection is recommended in all areas of the shop and is provided by the Company
