Job summary

Charles Schwab is seeking a Sr Manager for Software Development & Engineering Senior to lead a high-performing team in Austin. You will design, develop, and deliver solutions within an Agile Scrum framework, mentoring peers, and ensuring secure, scalable systems for clients.

You’ll collaborate with product owners, manage production support, and drive architecture decisions while emphasizing code quality through automated testing and modern DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems.
• 7+ years in a complex software development role.
• Expertise in C#/.NET and SQL Server/PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Agile teams and Jira/Confluence.
• Front-end tech: Angular, TypeScript, HTML, CSS.
• Familiarity with event-driven programming (RabbitMQ).
• CI/CD pipelines (Bamboo, GitHub, Bitbucket).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver solutions as part of an Agile Scrum team.
• Mentor and coach team members on software development principles.
• Support and triage issues and participate in production support to ensure resilient systems.
• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to define strategy and scope of software requirements.

This newly created role will support the future growth of the Schwab Asset Management (SAM) business. As a Sr Manager, Software Development & Engineering Senior, you will be a senior member of a high-performing engineering team that is responsible for developing and supporting the technology used to manage SAM's assets. As a hands-on technical lead, you will deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing environment. You will provide the technical guidance and support to empower the team's productivity.

• Design, develop, and deliver solutions as part of an Agile Scrum team.
• Leverage understanding of software development principles and practices to help mentor and coach team members.
• Support and triage issues and participate in production support to help develop resilient and secure systems to prevent issues that impact our clients.
• Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to define strategy and scope of software requirements (decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks)
• Deliver new concepts and features, working alongside development peers in an agile environment
• Utilize automated software test tools and frameworks such as test-driven development to achieve the highest quality in software delivery

What you have

Required Qualifications

• A university degree in a technical program, such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems. Advanced degrees and/or other professional certifications are a plus
• Hands on experience gained through at least 7 years in a complex software development role, and current working experience with Schwab systems and processes
• Expertise in C#/.NET (including .NET Core) and relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
• Recent experience working in Agile (Scrum or Kanban) teams, as both a practitioner and an adherent, using Jira/Confluence
• Experience with Angular, TypeScript, HTML, CSS
• Familiarity with event-driven programming (RabbitMQ or similar)
• Ability to perform code reviews, debug, and troubleshoot complex issues
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Bamboo, GitHub, Bitbucket)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving as a technical lead on an engineering team, mentoring staff, and developing talent
• Experience in financial industry-specific technologies, such as FIX messaging, market data APIs, and trade order management systems (OMS)
• Control-M or other job scheduling tools
• Exposure to Informatica or other ETL tools
• CodeQL, SonarQube, or Veracode for code quality/security
• Knowledge of Splunk (monitoring/log analysis)
• Experience with cloud technologies; AWS, GCP, or PCF will be a plus
• Strong customer focus with a sense of ownership and determination to drive solutions in a collaborative environment
