Symetra has a superb opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Manager, IT Operations!

About the role

The Senior IT Operations Manager will have accountability for leading and setting the technical direction/vision for internal team(s) of technical resources responsible for the successful delivery of IT operational services. These services can be provided by both internal employees and external IT service providers. Operational services provided by the IT Operations manager and their team may include infrastructure services, end user computing services, security, vendor management, and more.

What you will do
  • Lead, develop, and coach a diverse team of 8–15 IT Staff Members.
  • Provide timely feedback and career development guidance, proactively identifying growth opportunities for team members.
  • Champion a culture of ownership, accountability, and full problem resolution across the team.
  • Ensure SLA/SLO targets are consistently met across all support channels, providing clear reporting metrics.
  • Support resolution of escalated or complex technical issues by removing roadblocks and coordinating cross-functional efforts.
  • Promote root cause resolution and ensure appropriate documentation and Knowledge Base updates are completed for long-term impact.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with peers across IT functions to align support with business needs.
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with executive stakeholders, reshaping perceptions of support through consistent delivery and responsiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement using data and feedback to evolve processes, tools, and team capabilities.
  • Apply agile methodologies to manage support workstreams and lead the team through iterative project delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal vendor support partners to ensure vendor performance meets expectations and aligns with internal standards for quality and responsiveness.
  • Oversee asset management strategy and compliance, ensuring operational efficiency and audit readiness.

Compensation

Salary Range: $137,500 - $229,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program.

Who you are
  • 8+ years of dynamic technical experience within IT Operations or IT Support.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams of 8–15 individual contributors and leads.
  • Demonstrated success crafting a culture of full accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and influencing at all levels of the organization.
  • Confirmed ability to deliver strategic outcomes while managing operational execution.
  • Solid understanding of endpoint management, end user device technologies, and ITIL-aligned service management.
  • Experience applying agile practices to operational and project delivery workstreams.
  • Experience coordinating with Managed Service Providers.
  • Expert communication and collaborator leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred certifications: ITIL, CompTIA, MCSA, or equivalent.
