Sr. Manager, Development Outsourcing and Contracts

Job Title: Clinical Development Outsourcing Leader

Hourly Pay: $90.32

Must Haves:

We are ideally looking for a candidate who can take ownership of study-level contracts and RFPs. While oversight will be provided, the individual should have a strong understanding of expectations and be able to drive contracts forward independently. Candidates with both CRO and pharma experience are preferred. Strong communication, flexibility, and initiative are key. While the role is remote, local candidates in Princeton, Bethesda, or Cambridge are preferred.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly capable Clinical Development Outsourcing Leader with strong outsourcing, negotiation, and contracting skills to support the execution of drug development programs. This key role will manage the outsourcing process from the identification of need through contract execution. It is an exciting and interdisciplinary opportunity for a qualified, organized, and motivated individual to contribute in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Service Provider Outsourcing, Negotiations, and Contracting:

  • Manage the outsourcing process in collaboration with Clinical Development, Finance, and Legal.
  • Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs) for outsourced services.
  • Coordinate cross-functional review and assessment of vendor proposals.
  • Review contract documents, ensuring alignment with master service agreements and company policies.
  • Negotiate budgets and contract terms using benchmarking tools and established negotiation parameters.
  • Work with Legal and Clinical Outsourcing to ensure final contracts cover necessary scope and comply with company requirements and regulations.
  • Oversee the contract execution process according to requirements.

Contract Management and Maintenance:

  • Monitor service provider delivery in accordance with contract terms and minimize/negotiate change orders.
  • Ensure executed contracts are properly documented and tracked within the legal database.
  • Manage contract approvals and ensure appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare reports and analyze contract-related metrics to improve efficiency.

Process and Template Development:

  • Support the development and refinement of outsourcing processes, including RFP and contract templates.
  • Participate in corporate initiatives to optimize contract management practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Procurement, Legal, Finance) to manage high volumes of contract requests while maintaining project timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business, or legal discipline (or related field).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or related industry, with at least 4 years in outsourcing, contract negotiation, and/or contract management.
  • Experience with various contract types and service categories preferred.
  • Strong understanding of drug development processes, including small molecules and biologics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and contract terms/conditions.
  • Strong analytical skills, including benchmarking and market analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently in a matrixed environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in a multicultural team environment and ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Strong vendor budgeting experience, specifically with CRO unit bid grids and other vendor contracts.
  • Experience leading RFIs and RFPs.
  • Ability to manage study-level contracts and RFPs independently while receiving oversight on processes.
  • Blend of CRO and pharma experience preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong communication and project management skills.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and ability to escalate concerns when necessary.
