Job summary

Dallas College seeks a Senior Manager, Accessibility to oversee ADA and Rehabilitation Act compliance and coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities. The role collaborates with Academic departments, Admissions, Student Life, IT, and Academic Affairs to support students in realizing their academic potential.

The Senior Manager leads interpreters, manages budgets, and develops best practices to ensure accessible learning environments across the college, with a focus on quality

Responsibilities

  • Develop goals and monitor budget for staff interpreters.
  • Coordinate scheduling of CART and Sign Language Interpreters.
  • Evaluate prospective Sign Language Interpreters and CART Captioners.
  • Assist with hiring and contracting qualified interpreters and transcribers.
  • Schedule and assign interpreters to accommodations and requests.
  • Promote an inclusive team environment and high-quality services.
  • Review invoices and monitor service expenses within budget.
  • Develop regular reports for the Director of Accessibility.
  • Collaborate with practitioners to ensure effective services for students.

  • Weekly Work Hours: 40
  • Compensation Range: Staff Range N07
  • Salary Minimum: $77,200.00 Annually
  • FLSA: United States of America (Exempt)
  • Work Location: All positions are considered on-site roles. After six months of employment, some positions may be eligible to apply for a hybrid work arrangement based on job responsibilities, operational needs, supervisor approval, and Dallas College policy.
  • Academic (Faculty) positions require an on-campus presence, even when teaching online courses, in accordance with state law.
  • Position Type: Staff All positions are considered on-site roles. After six months of employment, employees may have the opportunity to apply for a hybrid work schedule. Academic positions (Faculty) require on-campus presence, even if the role involves teaching online classes, in accordance with state law.
POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Accessibility is responsible for interpretation and application of the regulations of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and College policies and provisions for accommodation of Dallas College students with disabilities. The Senior Manager collaborates with other offices on campus, such as Academic departments, Admissions, Student Life, Information Technology, and Academic Affairs, to support students with disabilities in realizing their academic potential.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse communities.
  • Strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside Dallas College.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and programs; knowledge of student due process policies/procedures; knowledge and understanding of the current issues and trends in student affairs and student development.
  • Experience in assessment of program(s)effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance student success units within the institution and with accrediting bodies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community network
Key Responsibilities
  • The Senior Manager develops goals and objectives for staff interpreters, monitors the assigned budget and provides monthly reports; collaborates with students and staff to discuss and assess individual needs.
  • Coordinating the scheduling and assignment of CART (Communication Access Real-Time Translation) and Sign Language Interpreters.
  • Evaluates prospective Sign Language Interpreters and CART Captioners.
  • Assists with hiring and contracting qualified interpreters and transcribers.
  • Schedules and assigns Sign Language Interpreters and CART Captioners in response to requested accommodations.
  • Promotes an inclusive team environment with an emphasis on fostering high quality professional skills and client services.
  • Receives and reviews invoices from independent contractors.
  • Monitors service expenses and works within assigned budget.
  • Develops regular reports as requested by the Director of Accessibility.
  • Collaborates with practitioners in Accessibility Services on interpreting and transcribing services.
  • Assess student needs, adjusting services as needed.
  • Collaborates with students and faculty members to effectively problem solve classroom issues with Sign Language Interpreters and CART Captioners.
  • Provides awareness training and coaching to students and/or instructors on issues related to Deaf culture and communication access.
  • Maintains contact with national organizations and other post-secondary institutions to keep abreast of current issues and changes in the field of interpreting and transcribing services.
  • Implements best practices and maintains a high quality of interpreting and transcribing services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, listening, orally and written; to work with individuals within the Dallas College community.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
