Job Description
Job Purpose: A multi-skilled maintenance technician responsible for providing hands-on maintenance services for all plant production equipment, both automated and manual. The goal is to ensure effective and efficient operations of all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components and systems. This individual will be the initial staff member on the plant maintenance team.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain high on-line availability of custom automated equipment used for substrate assembly in catalytic converter production, including automated and manual systems.
- Perform mechanical troubleshooting and servicing of automated production equipment such as hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gear reducers, and pumps.
- Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach servo motors, connect couplings, and perform mechanical overhauls and adjustments. Support operators with adjustments, setups, and changeovers.
- Conduct electrical troubleshooting and servicing of AC & DC motors, variable speed drives, electrical panels, and wiring.
- Provide electronic troubleshooting and service for actuators and sensors.
- Perform basic PLC programming and troubleshooting for systems like Omron, Mitsubishi, and Automation Direct.
- Review work orders and complete maintenance and repair records promptly.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Guide service contractors during repair, preventive maintenance, and inspections transitioning to in-house staff.
- Manage spare parts inventory and preventive maintenance programs.
- Participate in new equipment projects from concept to commissioning.
- Observe and suggest operational or design improvements to enhance equipment efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and other teams, providing feedback and support.
- Train future maintenance technicians as the team expands.
Education and Licensing:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Formal training in mechanical, electronic, and control systems, including PLC programming/troubleshooting, electrical power, and motors.
Work Experience:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, modify, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on automated equipment with PLC/HMI, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Hands-on experience with chemical production equipment (desired).
Technical Skills:
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, specifications, and instructions.
- Skilled in disassembling, repairing, and reassembling machinery.
- Ability to follow electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical wiring and controls.
- PLC programming/troubleshooting skills are highly desirable.
Physical Demands:
- Lift up to 60 pounds.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Respond to urgent breakdowns during non-standard hours.
