Job summary

Devon Energy in Midland, TX seeks an experienced Petroleum Landman to manage subsurface rights, negotiate farm-in and assignments, and develop land strategies.

You will work with land administration, geology and engineering teams, perform due diligence on acquisitions, and travel 10-15% for field visits and meetings. 5+ years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land/Energy Management or related field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in land management or a related role.
  • BLM and State NM relations experience preferred.
  • AAPL certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review, evaluate and assimilate opportunities to acquire land or operating and drilling rights.
  • Negotiate, draft and amend complex land agreements (farm-in/farm-outs, term assignments, JOAs, etc.).
  • Coordinate with land administration to maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor regulatory provisions and land values to ensure compliance and value addition.
  • Collaborate with geology and engineering teams on acquisition targets and divestitures.

Developing and executing land strategies. Performing in-depth and detailed land related research. Working closely with government officials and possibly testifying at oil and gas commission hearings. Conducting due diligence for acquisitions, divestitures and trades. Building and maintaining relationships with our internal land administration group and helping with title curative work.Job Description:Reviews, evaluates and assimilates opportunities to acquire land or operating and drilling rightsNegotiates, writes, reviews and amends agreements, such as farm-in/farm-outs, term assignments,joint operating agreements and many other detailed agreementsWorks with land administration and support personnel to maintain accurate land recordsKeeps abreast of regulatory provisions, trending practices, land values in order to add value andmaintain compliance with contractual requirements and obligationsWorks with integrated Geology and Engineering team to evaluate acquisition targetsReviews and makes recommendations regarding property and asset divestitures and acquisitionsOther tasks as assignedSkills and Experience:· BLM and State of New Mexico relations · AAPL certification preferredWorking knowledge of unconventional/conventional resource plays preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skills are necessaryStrong interpersonal, negotiation and problem solving skills are necessaryProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task with attention to accuracyA proven team player that possess the ability to adapt to a changing and fast paced workenvironmentEducation:Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land/Energy Management or related field required.Years of Experience:5+ Years of experienceWorking Conditions and Physical Demands:Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. Incumbents must be able to perform work which includes typing, sitting and standing. In the event that incumbent visits operations worksite, personal protection equipment, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame resistant clothing is required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced.
