The role is remote, with flexibility for workers located in Sunnyvale, CA or anywhere in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not offered. The salary ranges from $63,000 to $110,500 annually, with discretionary incentive eligibility.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development with Java, Spring, Spring Boot and Spring Data JPA.
• Hands-on experience building scalable backend apps in a cloud environment.
• Strong experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and modern deployment practices.
• Experience in an Agile Scrum environment with cross-functional stakeholders.

About the Role

As a Senior Java Backend Developer, you will make an impact by designing and developing scalable, cloud-based applications that support high-volume business operations. You will be a valued member of a collaborative engineering team and work closely with technical product managers, technical leads, developers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable technology solutions.

In this role, you will

• Design, develop, and implement scalable backend applications and analytics solutions using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies.
• Translate business requirements into effective technical solutions and confidently lead technical discussions with product managers, technical leads, and other stakeholders.
• Build high-quality application features by following industry coding standards, developing unit tests, and meeting established code-coverage expectations.
• Support the complete software delivery lifecycle, including application testing, CI/CD deployment, production release, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Create and maintain technical designs and service specifications while providing guidance to developers on functional and technical documentation.

What you need to have to be considered

• Experience designing large-scale, high-volume, or distributed applications.

Salary and Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is $63,000 - $110,500, depending on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

In addition to salary, this role is eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, subject to individual and company performance.
