Senior Manager, Instructional Design & Training Delivery
Summary:
The International Society of Automation is seeking an accomplished Senior Manager of Instructional Design & Training Delivery to lead the innovation and modernization of our training programs for industrial automation professionals. The successful candidate will have experience integrating AI-driven tools and platforms into live and online adult education, with a strong focus on delivering measurable learning outcomes for technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the instructional design and training delivery team, ensuring courses for automation engineers, technicians, and managers reflect best practices in adult learning and leverage the latest advancements in AI-enhanced education.
Deploy and manage AI-enabled platforms and tools to support:
Adaptive learning
Personalized content and recommendations (e.g., OpenAI GPT models, Coursera’s AI-driven suggestions)
Automated assessment and feedback
Learning analytics for program improvement (e.g., Microsoft Azure ML, LMS analytics)
Intelligent virtual assistants or chatbots for learner support
Oversee the design and delivery of both live (instructor-led) and online (self-paced, virtual classroom) training experiences, optimizing engagement and effectiveness across delivery formats.
Collaborate closely with subject matter experts, trainers, technologists, and product managers to ensure content aligns with the latest industry standards, technologies, and competency requirements in industrial automation.
Develop and maintain guidelines for ethical, effective, and secure use of AI tools in course delivery and assessment.
Pilot and evaluate new AI-based solutions for improving engagement, knowledge retention, and workforce readiness among automation professionals.
Analyze training data to guide continuous improvement, customizing learning paths and interventions based on industry needs and learner performance.
Mentor the instructional team to adopt and excel at using AI-driven tools and workflows in curriculum development and delivery.
Represent the society’s training initiatives at industry conferences and with external partners.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, Engineering, Educational Technology, or related field.
10+ years’ experience in instructional design, educational technology, or technical training delivery, including experience leading design initiatives for a technical/professional audience.
Direct experience integrating AI tools in industrial or adult education settings, including adaptive learning, generative AI, and analytics
Proven success delivering both live instructor-led and online training, preferably in professional society or technical continuing education settings.
Strong knowledge of industry-standard LMS and AI-enabled learning platforms (e.g., Moodle with AI plugins, Canvas with analytics, Articulate 360).
Exceptional project management, leadership, and communication skills.
Familiarity with the needs, competency frameworks, and evolving technologies in the industrial automation sector.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience training technical professionals in industrial automation, control systems, or related engineering disciplines.
Expertise with virtual labs, simulation tools, or hands-on online skills assessments for engineering topics.
Prior work with industry-recognized certification or continuing education programs.
Demonstrated thought leadership via industry presentations, articles, or educational technology research in the field of AI-enhanced technical training.
