Job description

Sr Hardware Development Manager, Embedded and Electrical , Fauna

Job ID: 10514657 | Amazon.com Services LLC

We are seeking an Embedded and Electrical Engineering Manager to lead electrical engineering and embedded software development to support robotics platforms. You will own electrical hardware, embedded firmware, and compute subsystems from architecture definition through engineering validation and into manufacturing.

In this role, you will lead a team of electrical engineers and embedded software developers through some of the most challenging problems in robotics. This includes compute architecture, developing safety-certifiable power and control electronics, designing embedded firmware for real-time motor control and sensor fusion, and driving design towards cost optimization.

The ideal candidate has led electrical and embedded teams through full product development cycles for complex electromechanical systems, has deep experience with team management and manufacturing scale-up, and brings either robotics, consumer electronics, or automotive safety-critical systems experience.

Key job responsibilities
  • Lead and scale a multidisciplinary hardware organization spanning electrical engineering, embedded software, test engineering, and technician functions, owning headcount planning, team structure, and delivery accountability from architecture through mass production.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent by building inclusive hiring pipelines, driving structured onboarding, and partnering with technical leads to create clear growth paths that improve retention and raise the team's capability bar.
  • Own the hardware development program plan — maintaining the master schedule, risk register, and resource allocation model across parallel electrical and firmware workstreams, surfacing blockers early and driving resolution across dependent teams.
  • Partner with technical architects to define and communicate the electronics development roadmap, including research and new technology introduction activities, and translate that roadmap into quarterly priorities and cross‑functional alignment.
  • Align embedded software investments to program milestones by working with technical leads to sequence real‑time control, sensor, communications, and system health workstreams against hardware readiness and product delivery dates.
  • Drive safety architecture delivery by coordinating cross‑functional stakeholders, tracking milestone completion, and ensuring hardware implementation aligns with program safety requirements and review gates.
  • Coordinate embedded software architecture decisions — including bootloader strategy, operating system selection, diagnostics, and over‑the‑air update infrastructure — with platform, reliability, and manufacturing teams to ensure alignment before design lock.
  • Manage contract manufacturer relationships and manufacturing bring‑up execution for electrical subsystems, owning the program schedule for printed circuit board assembly test fixture development, end‑of‑line programming, and production readiness reviews.
  • Own the reliability and environmental test program — aligning thermal cycling, vibration, electromagnetic compatibility, and electrostatic discharge scope to program requirements, coordinating execution with test teams, and tracking results against release criteria.
  • Serve as the primary integration point across mechanical, software, and science teams, ensuring electrical and embedded decisions are captured in the cross‑functional dependency map and resolved before they become critical path risks.
  • Manage vendor and partner relationships for printed circuit board assemblies, wiring harnesses, sensors, battery systems, and charging electronics, owning statement of work alignment, delivery schedules, and escalation paths.
About the team

Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces.
We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real‑world robotic products.
Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful.
At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build.
If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’re interested in hearing from you.
