Job summary

Amazon Robotics seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to design, implement and release hardware for next-gen industrial robotic systems. You will own large components of a system, lead engineers, and guide cross‑functional teams from concept to production in North Reading, MA.

You will work on vision sensors, optics, analog/digital circuits, and system debugging, collaborating across disciplines to ensure robust, manufacturable solutions with strong documentation and testing.

Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to work on system design, implementation, and release to manufacturing for the next generation of industrial robotic systems and components. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in vision sensors, optics, complex analog and digital circuit design, possess strong communication skills, have the ability to own a large component of a system and guide a team of Electrical Engineers. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in team settings. This position reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager.

Key job responsibilities
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, validation, testing and certification
  • Lead and support a technical team on multiple projects in parallel
  • Coordinate all activities within the engineering discipline for the project.
  • Ensure coordination with other disciplines is effective for each project.
  • Thorough comprehension of technical principles and concepts in Electrical Engineering
  • Writing and developing functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures
  • Architect, design, and implement complex embedded systems, analog and digital circuit design, and systems debugging
  • Supporting product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments
  • Execute tasks to fast-paced schedules

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of new hardware products development experience
  • Experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design
  • Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • 5+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions
  • Experience leading engineering teams as a mentor or tech lead, or experience leading and influencing your team or organization
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience testing hardware/mechanical sub-components, research and data analysis skills, and/or Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout best practices
  • Expert in schematic entry, layout tools and design for manufacturability (familiarity with OrCAD Capture and Cadence Allegro tool flow is a plus).
  • Proficient with PSPICE for analog circuit simulation.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction - from system to the "nuts and bolts" implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Experience in problem solving and delivering results
  • Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • Experience in a customer‑focused field or business
  • Experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround, or experience in a fast‑paced, high-tech company
  • Experience handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through strong problem solving abilities
  • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
  • Experience understanding needs of business and end customers and translating them into right solutions
  • Experience with written and verbal communication and presentation
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems, or experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware
  • Experience in troubleshooting installation, fault finding, and repairs
  • Ability to support domestic and international travel as required by the program
  • Experience applying IEC 60204 and/or IEC 61508 machinery safety standards preferred.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
