Job summary

A staffing and consulting firm is seeking a Senior GIS Analyst/GIS Engineer in New York City. This contract role involves data migration, mapping, and GIS application development for telecommunications infrastructure. Qualifications

Overview

Position Title: Senior GIS Analyst / GIS Engineer
Location: New York, NY
Clearance Requirements: None
Position Status: Contract
Pay Rate: $66-76/hr on W2

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Migration & Infrastructure Support
    • Perform data conversion and migration for telecommunications and data network infrastructure systems.
    • Migrate, maintain, and validate data for underground and aerial assets, including manholes, vaults, poles, towers, buildings, trenches, conduits, and service boxes.
    • Build and manage GIS data for:
    • Inside Plant (ISP): fiber cables, risers, floor plans, room layouts, cabinets, relay racks, and equipment elevations
    • Manage network equipment connectivity and Circuit Layout Records (CLR) data.
  • Mapping, Spatial Analysis & Reporting
    • Review, generate, revise, and update land and infrastructure maps using GIS platforms.
    • Compile and analyze geospatial data from multiple sources, including field observations, satellite imagery, aerial photography, and existing datasets.
    • Apply cartographic principles such as coordinate systems, scale, elevation, and topography.
    • Analyze spatial relationships across datasets and produce clear, actionable maps and reports.
  • GIS Application Development & Evaluation
    • Build, configure, maintain, and upgrade GIS applications, including software and database enhancements.
    • Evaluate map-based GIS applications to support future upgrades of the Ericsson Network Engineer Map Based GIS platform.
    • Recommend enhancements to ensure GIS systems remain scalable, reliable, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Data Integrity & Research
    • Research, locate, validate, and integrate existing databases and geospatial datasets.
    • Maintain high standards of data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across all GIS systems.
    • Ensure compliance with data quality and documentation standards.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Communicate GIS insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with IT, engineering, contractors, and business teams to ensure successful delivery of GIS initiatives.
    • Support cross-functional teams on infrastructure and network modernization projects.
Required Skills / Education
  • Hands-on experience with GIS platforms, preferably ESRI ArcGIS and Ericsson Network Engineer Map Based GIS.
  • Prior experience using GIS and/or AutoCAD tools.
  • Proven experience mapping underground and aerial telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Underground and aerial schematic diagrams
  • Telecommunications network connectivity diagrams
  • Circuit Layout Records (CLR)
  • Experience supporting OSP and ISP fiber infrastructure.
  • Strong computer skills with experience maintaining, validating, and managing GIS databases.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and spatial analysis skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and cartographic communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as GISP or Esri Technical Certification.
  • Advanced experience with Ericsson Network Engineer Map Based GIS.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications network infrastructure projects, including fiber design and mapping.
  • Experience leading or supporting enterprise GIS application upgrades or system migrations.
  • Familiarity with geospatial database technologies such as SQL, Oracle, or similar platforms.
  • Strong background in cartography and spatial data modeling.
  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects with cross-functional IT and engineering teams.
