Job description

What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions, Inc is seeking a GIS Specialist to add to the Innovation Solution Center (ISC). The GIS Specialist will be dynamic contributor to the Barge Innovation Solution Center Team and will have responsibility in the following areas:

  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and designers to execute spatial solutions and sound modern GIS practices into our deliverables.
  • Responsible for analyzing geospatial data to support a variety of client projects.
  • Provide professional guidance and subject matter expertise to staff.
Responsibilities:
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to document project requirements
  • Collect, organize, and maintain spatial datasets from various sources
  • Conduct geospatial analyses to support project planning, design, and implementation
  • Create high-quality maps, graphics, and data visualizations for client deliverables
  • Collaborate with project teams to create and revise GIS deliverables
  • Stay up to date on emerging GIS technologies, trends, and best practices
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the firm's GIS capabilities

Education & Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience working as a GIS Specialist or Analyst
  • Familiarity with spatial data acquisition, management, and analysis techniques
  • Ability to translate complex geospatial data into clear, actionable insights
  • Experience integrating GIS data and mapping capabilities into diverse project workflows
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Experience gathering requirements and engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Technical skills in ESRI’s ArcGIS software suite and related extensions
  • Proficiency in spatial data manipulation, geoprocessing, and analysis
  • Ability to create custom maps, visualizations, and dashboards for client deliverables
  • Experience with relational databases and spatial data management
  • Familiarity with remote sensing, LiDAR, and other geospatial data collection methods
  • Knowledge of cartographic principles and spatial data standards
  • Coding skills in languages like Python, R, or JavaScript for GIS automation will be considered but are not required
  • Knowledge and understanding of on-prem or cloud-based hosting, network protocols, and system architecture
  • Knowledge of Asset Management principles and CMMS systems
  • Comfort working with CAD, BIM, and other engineering/design software
