Job Summary

Senior Genco Environmental Specialist develops environmental programs and training activities to meet business goals and regulatory compliance. This position provides leadership in the communication of environmental initiatives and risk impacts, performs in-depth analyses of environmental metrics, coordinates facility documentation processes, and leads compliance program development.

What you will do

• Identify and develop environmental plans and programs to meet applicable corporate policies, business goals, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in the development of communication tools for environmental initiatives and risk impacts.
• Lead, coordinate, provide, and/or conduct environmental training and education.
• Provide technical support for environmental management system program modifications and implement improvements.
• Research state‑of‑the‑art developments in environmental controls and recommend improvements and strategies.
• Evaluate and develop comments on proposed state and federal laws and regulations.
• Coordinate with local authorities to review and assess emergency response procedures and capabilities.
• Exhibit leadership in anticipating and addressing evolving and emerging environmental issues.
• Coordinate with departments and business units to identify on‐going and future environmental needs and develop comprehensive strategies.
• Collaborate with internal customers on complex environmental and research projects and analyze improvements to workflow, policies, and practices.
• Perform in-depth analysis and interpretation of environmental performance measures.
• Coordinate the administration of environmental filing systems and all relevant records in compliance with permitting, monitoring, and record‑keeping requirements.
• Assess facility compliance with environmental rules and regulations and ensure existing policies and QA/QC plans are followed.
• Participate in environmental inspections and compliance audits.
• Investigate environmental incidents and assist in the implementation of improvement plans.
• Conduct onsite investigations and provide analysis on the outcomes.
• Work with company environmental staff to integrate assessments of existing and anticipated regulations into planning and operating decisions.
• Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s values and help deliver on the purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in civil, environmental or chemical engineering, environmental studies, physical or natural sciences, or a related area.

Preferred and Required Experience

5 years of experience in engineering, science, compliance planning work or environmental resource management with an electric utility, consulting firm, or government agency.

Other Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of electric, gas, or steam operating practices, construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, regulatory compliance, and materials.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, utility groups, and other industries.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage project teams with cross‑functional member knowledge and experience.
• Solid knowledge and interpretation of environmental rules and applicable EPA regulations as they apply to the utility industry.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret government regulations.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform accurate analysis of performance measures and develop reports, charts, and graphs.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer software programs such as e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and project management tools.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Benefits and Compensation

Pay Range: $95,000–$110,000. This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on factors including responsibilities, experience, skill set, internal pay equity, and other relevant qualifications.
