The role requires 8+ years in FPGA design, VHDL/Verilog, and experience with Vivado or Quartus, plus collaboration across electrical, firmware, test, and supply chain teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required.
  • 8+ years of hands-on FPGA design in high-reliability aerospace/defense or similar industries.
  • Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog with maintainable code.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain FPGA-based digital logic across the full lifecycle.
  • Build FPGA architectures and RTL designs using VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog.
  • Own the FPGA development flow: simulation, verification, synthesis, timing, and optimization.
  • Create and execute FPGA verification strategies, test benches, and hardware validation activities.

Our client, Aerospace and Defense is seeking a Sr. FPGA Engineer to join their team. As a Sr. FPGA Engineer, you will be part of the Engineering organization supporting the FPGA Design and Integration team. The ideal candidate will have strong FPGA architecture and RTL design expertise, a proven track record in verification and timing closure, and the ability to collaborate across electrical, firmware/software, test, manufacturing, and supply chain partners to deliver production-ready solutions.

Job Title: Sr. FPGA Engineer

Location: Santa Ana, California

Pay Range: Up to $185000

What's the Job?
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain FPGA-based digital logic solutions for new and existing products across the full lifecycle.
  • Build FPGA architectures and RTL designs using VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog based on system and product requirements.
  • Own the FPGA development flow including simulation, functional verification, debugging, synthesis, implementation, timing analysis, and design optimization.
  • Create and execute FPGA verification strategies, test benches, and hardware validation activities to confirm performance and requirements compliance.
  • Integrate FPGA designs with processors, memory, clocks, high-speed interfaces, and other board-level hardware; troubleshoot issues across FPGA, electrical, and firmware/software boundaries.
What's Needed?
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience with significant hands-on FPGA design and development in aerospace, defense, communications, or other high-reliability electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with FPGA architecture, RTL design, simulation, synthesis, implementation, timing closure, and hardware verification.
  • Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog, with experience writing maintainable, reusable FPGA code.
  • Hands-on experience with FPGA development tools such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or comparable toolsets.
