Cox Automotive Inc. (Cox Fleet) in Warwick, RI seeks a Master-level Technician to perform high-skill vehicle maintenance and repairs on fleet trucks and trailers.

You will work independently or with a team to deliver safe, reliable service and exceptional customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, complex diagnostics, diesel and transmission repairs, advanced welding, and collaboration with vendors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required or equivalent experience.
  • Master ASE certification preferred; maintain ASE status with training.
  • Valid driver’s license; state license; required for prop-drivers.
  • Ability to drive manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Must work safely in fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, filters, and inspections.
  • Conduct light/major repairs and advanced diagnostics; interact with customers.
  • Repair complex systems including OBD II, brakes, tires, suspensions, electrical, and hydraulics.
  • Maintain/repair equipment and tools; keep shop clean and safe.
  • Create and maintain vehicle history and maintenance records.

We are supported by a 24/7 in‑house call‑center and provide scheduled maintenance services and unscheduled services to fleets anywhere, anytime.

Job Description

The position is a Master‑level Technician providing high‑skill‑level accurate vehicle maintenance and repairs of fleet vehicles with a focus on exceptional customer satisfaction in a cost‑effective manner. The Technician may work independently or in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance: change oil, oil filter, fuel filter, transmission flush, and inspect vehicles for mechanical deficiencies.
  • Conduct light and major repairs and advanced diagnostics; interact directly with customers and demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Perform repairs based on certification levels, including OBD II systems, brake components, tires, tune‑ups, suspension components, aerial lifts, electrical systems, state safety inspections, interior/exterior components, engine, drive line components, etc.
  • Maintain/repair equipment such as cable trailers and laptop docking stations.
  • Keep shop area clean and tidy and comply with safety standards; dispose of fluids safely and per regulations.
  • Create and maintain vehicle history and maintenance records; up‑fit new vehicles as needed.
  • Perform complex repairs, advanced diagnostics, design, and fabrication.
  • Coordinate with vendors for parts and repairs; provide roadside assistance as needed.
  • Engage in equipment design and moderate fabrication tasks including welding to provide custom solutions.
  • Maintain specialized trucks: troubleshoot and repair complex hydraulic systems, generators and electrical systems, hybrids, and on‑board computer systems.
  • Diagnose and repair general automotive parts and accessories including brakes, drivability, emissions, steering/suspension, electrical, state safety, HVAC, engine, hydraulics.
  • Require medium/heavy truck experience with booms/hydraulics, electrical, and complex repairs, design, and fabrication.
  • Skilled in diesel and transmission repairs; possess advanced knowledge and troubleshooting skills for complex repairs.
  • Master‑level technicians must work on multiple applications from Light‑Duty to Class A‑Heavy Trucks, mechanical equipment, machinery, passenger vehicles, and more.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field (alternative combinations allowed).
  • Currently possess or be able to attain Master Level ASE certification preferred; must maintain ASE status through continued training.
  • Valid driver’s license with driver qualification file; valid state driver’s license; mandatory for prop‑drivers.
  • Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmission.
  • Must work safely in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, reach, talk, hear; frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, climb.
  • Must have visual requirements: close, distance and color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must lift and carry up to 75 pounds (tools, equipment).
  • Transmission experience and diesel experience preferred.
  • Extensive training and certification with 5–10 years of hands‑on diesel repair experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT and CDL requirements for medium and heavy truck applications.
  • Must obtain Class A or B Operator’s License if required.
  • Current valid DOT medical card or DOT physical as required.
Compensation

Hourly pay rate $32.31‑$48.46 per hour. Base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on location and candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation such as commission and/or incentive programs.

Benefits

Employees receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays annually. Additional paid time off may be earned for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
