Job summary

Cox Fleet is hiring a Light & Medium Duty Technician in the United States. You will perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and light repairs on light/medium duty gas vehicles for assigned fleets, with a focus on accuracy and safety.

You’ll document work orders, manage parts and tools, and communicate with Dispatch to obtain approvals and schedule work while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.

Qualifications

Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Light & Medium Duty Technician. The mid‑level Technician will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The role involves scheduled dedicated work on assigned customer fleets (mostly light & medium duty gas vehicles) and may also include emergency roadside services when needed. The Technician must exhibit creative problem‑solving in emergencies and self‑manage the workday, making effective decisions, providing excellent customer service, paying close attention to detail, and maintaining situational awareness. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to function efficiently in emergency situations are essential. The Technician follows established processes and procedures for repairs or maintenance, maintains safety practices, and documents work order information. Excellence and quality of output are expected.

Duties
  • Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems; starters/alternators; fan clutches; engine electronics; power steering; engines (gas and diesel); transmissions (manual and automatic); clutches; differentials, and more.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled safety training and remain up to date on safety protocols and procedures to maintain a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of performed work, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders ("RO") using the company‑issued device and proprietary application.
  • Communicate with management, team members, and Dispatch via Microsoft Office products and other methods such as email or phone call to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss findings and notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for the repairs.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Work with, understand, and evaluate technical information related to the job.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
  • Collaborate with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, and cooling systems; starters/alternators; air conditioning systems; fan clutches; engine electronics; power steering; engines; transmissions; clutches; differentials, and more.
  • Confer with customers, Dispatch, and/or Sales team to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems and discuss work to be performed.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.

USD 29.38 - 44.09 per hour

Compensation

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $29.38 - $44.09 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission (annual or monthly) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Additional paid time off is available for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer time, military leave, and parental leave.
