Job summary

Sr. Field Quality Technician

Position Overview

At Lucid, we are redefining the future of luxury electric mobility. We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Sr. Field Quality Technician to support vehicle investigations, root cause analysis, validation activities, and field quality improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings strong diagnostic and repair expertise, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Service, and Quality teams to identify, understand, and resolve vehicle issues. This role is a critical link between field performance and continuous product improvement.

What You Will Do
Vehicle Diagnostics & Technical Investigation
  • Perform advanced diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and upgrades of Lucid vehicles and engineering test vehicles.
  • Investigate complex vehicle concerns across electrical, powertrain, chassis, body, thermal, infotainment, and software-related systems.
  • Support concern replication, failure analysis, vehicle inspection, and root cause investigations.
  • Collect and analyze diagnostic data, vehicle logs, fault codes, measurements, and physical evidence.
  • Document and clearly communicate investigation findings, conclusions, and recommended next steps.
Field Quality Support
  • Support Field Quality Engineers with hands-on investigations and structured root cause analysis of suspect components and vehicle systems.
  • Validate containment actions, permanent corrective actions, engineering changes, and software releases.
  • Support vehicle campaigns, containment initiatives, fleet monitoring, and field issue escalation activities.
  • Conduct road tests and functional evaluations to assess vehicle health, reproduce concerns, and confirm repair effectiveness.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and provide evidence-based input to improve product quality, diagnostics, repair methods, and service procedures.
  • Participate in cross-functional technical reviews and provide clear feedback on failure modes, customer impact, and validation results.
  • Follow work order, quality documentation, data collection, and traceability requirements.
Operational Excellence
  • Operate hand tools, pneumatic and electric power tools, torque equipment, lifting devices, and diagnostic equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including test equipment and related parts inventory.
  • Protect the confidentiality of vehicle testing, procedures, engineering information, and proprietary data.
  • Demonstrate reliability, resourcefulness, urgency, and full ownership of assigned responsibilities.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Service, Warranty, Program, and management teams.
  • Communicate technical information in a concise, accurate, and actionable manner.
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgment, teamwork, and a customer-first mindset.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Automotive technician degree, certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of automotive diagnostic, repair, quality, testing, or technical investigation experience.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle electrical and mechanical systems and diagnostic methodologies.
  • Experience diagnosing complex vehicle concerns with scan tools, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and related diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of electric vehicle architecture, including High Voltage and Low Voltage systems and EV powertrains.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, service information, engineering drawings, and technical procedures.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and learn proprietary diagnostic and engineering software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate vehicles for evaluation purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE certification; ASE Master Technician certification is highly desirable.
  • EPA Section 609 certification.
  • Previous OEM Master Technician certification.
  • Previous experience with electric vehicle diagnosis and repair.
  • Working knowledge of CAN bus, automotive Ethernet, and vehicle communication protocols.
  • Experience supporting engineering investigations, vehicle testing, launch, warranty, or field quality activities.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in automotive technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Forklift certification.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for 8–12 hours per shift on hard surfaces in a production environment.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands for handling tools, assembling components, and operating machinery. Requires fine motor skills and grip strength.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing 10–50 lbs regularly; occasional lifting up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Reaching and Bending: Routine reaching above shoulders, bending and twisting at the waist, and squatting as part of processes and tasks.
